Yeah im just going off hearing Cole talk about it, had a deal agreed then Arsenal tried to short change him which left him feeling not wanted.

Yes definitely, Arsenal were in the drivers seat for the majority of that. When the door was left ajar Chelsea certainly had the firepower (and incentives for his agents etc) to get the deal going rapidly. Wasn’t a great look for Arsenal at the time and in fact those were the early signs that Arsenal/David Dein realised that external investment was needed (ie, Kroenke) and a change in stadium in order to remain financially competitive.

Liverpool let his contract run down, Chelsea let Cashleys contract run down. Clubs like Pool weaponize the fanbase as a shield to cover their dodgy lowballing and mismanagement. Could've accepted a bid in Jan but they're gonna act like its a club legends fault that they're losing him for free lol

Spot on. If you don’t want to lose them for free, sign them up or ship them off while they still have value.

He has said he nearly "crashed his car" because Arsenal offered him s £55,000 a week and was "trembling with anger".

I’m not sure renege is the most accurate description, I would say more so it was failure to match. The difference was £5,000 per week in the two offers (famously Ashley had to pull over in the car as he was driving, he was that incensed). The relationship between Cole, Wenger, the club and Cole’s representatives completely broke down. I don’t believe any party came out of the looking great.

Arsenal at the time probably underestimated the financial power Chelsea had in the aftermath of Abramavich entering the game (also in terms of agents fees, incentives etc), and hence paid the price so to speak in losing an integral, key player at the peak of his powers to another team in the same city. Completely different to TAA and Madrid, Cole is the wrong example to cite in that reference.
Details aside, when a player leaves your club for a rival fans spit the dummy. It's the same in this case with TAA.

I've never got why people get upset about a player leaving for free. They had a contract, they fulfilled the terms of the contract. If it ends there, good luck to them.

Disappointed maybe, but football fans are such drama queens.

Maybe if they joined United I might think different, but anyone else I'm not too fussed about. Can't think of too many ex City players I have anything against.

Probably Barton but I didn't like him when he was still at City.

Different when they are a born and bred scouser living the dream. They are not supposed to not want to be at any other club, it's just how it is.

Ahh passionless logic. No place in sport.

There are many on here much more clued in on clubs, players etc but after spending a fair bit of time in Lisbon I've always kept an eye on Sporting. I don't have the same passion for them as Spurs but still watch when I can.

You are getting a gun in Quenda, just so talented. Not sure how this will translate to EPL but we'll worth the shot. I reckon he will kill it. Quite jealous.

I would have thought enough have made the move for you realise that playing for Liverpool isn't necessarily living the dream. Even for born and bred scousers.

I'm passionate about the players that want to be at the club.

The ones that leave, just memories and I would hate to lose those memories being bitter.

James Milner leaving City on a freebie to pursue his dream of winning the Champions League triggered much of your fanbase.
