Seems very high risk from Chelsea. Obviously they hope Sancho plays well but if he’s not great and they have to buy him in 12 months, and still have the Sterling problem to deal with when his loan ends as well it would be a really bad position to start a window in.

They need Sterling to have a great season, which would help a major rival and make them look a bit silly in the process.

We definitely lost this window.

I think in terms of English PL club. We’ve had one of the best transfer windows. Filled several holes with the additions of de Ligt, Mazraoui, Yoro, Ugarte and Zirkzee, all the right ages. Sekou Kone has been brought in for the future. Chibo Obi-Martin from Arsenal sounds like it will be completed too, just some details to be resolved. Selling off AWB, McTominay, Greenwood, Sancho, van der Beek, the expiring contracts of Varane and Martial and selling off surpass to requirements youth like Kambwala, Pellistri and Hannibal is a tidy transfer window. We didn’t overpay for anyone and sold off enough players in INEOS’ first transfer window that it’s been a huge success.

In terms of world football? It’s hard to go passed the current European champions signing the best player in the world for free.

So who won and lost the transfer window in the end?
im happy with our window. while i would've liked alvarez to stay, you cant say no to the fee atletico offered for someone who isnt a main guy in the side. savio looks the goods and getting gundo back free was a nice cherry on top. plus finally got rid of cancelo's wages and got a fee.

Only has a year left on his deal but even then 10 million pounds is absolutely peanuts. No real risk in it as that price but even still, it doesnt address any of our weaknesses.
It kind of does.
  1. Salah's backup is makeshift at best. Chiesa is not makeshift.
  2. Diaz is really Liverpools only player who runs at pace dribbling the ball at the opposition. Chiesa adds another player with that ability.
  3. There is no succession plan for Salah. If he leaves or if he is injured at least there is now a top class player who can replace him.

Sterling and Sancho deals both really interesting ones. Players moved on at low cost (compared to what they cost the selling/loaning clubs). But no guarantee of success.

Sounds like Chelsea are paying Sancho’s full wage, which is a win for this season. The obligation to buy apparently kicks in if Chelsea finish in the top 14, so that should be an easy trigger to meet. We’ve taken a hit on the original fee, but getting rid of Sancho is all the supporters care about.
