Travis Cloke to Fremantle? 1 million offer?

Freo (and every other club) would be derelict in their duties if they didn't approach him.

However - I struggle to see how he could be lured over with money.

One would think he'd get 750-800k with COllingwood, and say $1m with Freo.

You'd think living in Melbourne and being a 1 club player with Collingwood would provide a lot more other benefits in the immediate and distant future. Sacrificing that for perhaps $100k after tax per year would seem odd.

Contrast that with Ablett who would have been giving up 500k per annum to not go.

Where would be his best bet of getting set up financially off the field. In Melbourne with one AFL player per square inch or in booming WA like Pav and quite a few others?

Or has that boat already sailed?

Surely with the lack of depth and the rag tag bunch of scrubbers that only made 2 GFs because of the master coach, there is more than enough cap space to accomodate everyone.

Pies will sign Cloke & Reid and then look to recruit a free agent. The latter may take 2 years but it will happen.

Free agency is all good and well but teams still have a salary cap. Theres a reason GWS and Suns have a higher salary cap than anybody else....because they are crap and will take years to build.

I'm not sure any non GWS- Suns list can really afford a million dollar player. There are too many other list sacrifices that would have to be made to squeeze that salary in and still keep the team competitive.

Fremantle with its distance it travels every week and injuries it tends to get needs to consider depth, even more so than a Victorian team needs to.

SO where do the AFL compensation picks come from to Collingwood ??, if Collingwood get two first round picks all other clubs fit in around the Compensation picks I guess . Interesting , if that happens Freo should push even harder should they have the money . Freo could save on housing expenses and House Clokey at one of there Hippie Communes too .

Not sure whether we are even a chance to get him - it'll be a business decision for all parties ... but I'm already enjoying the flapping and nonsense from Eddie:D

That interview on footy show at the start of the year said it all, if pies can't pay for him someone will.. He's gone reguardless in my eyes.

He's not hiding it as well as Ablett and scully

But the only way pies will keep him is if Eddie pays him from his own pocket and when talking about Eddie it's very possible.

I'll be happy for rival clubs to fight over Cloke's services and pay handsomely for the privilege.

It means it is less likely clubs will have the money to try to lure Hawkins. :thumbsu:

He hasn't denigrated you in any food based analogies yet.
Wait for it.

Jesus I'd love Sydney to match this offer or better it. Would turn the Swans into a serious contender

Was just thinking that when I was reading the thread.

Would turn the Swans into a serious flag threat imo, their dysfunctional forward line is what hurts them the most. If they added Cloke along with Reid/Goodes it'd suddenly be monstrous.

Could they afford $1m+ a year though?

I disagree with these comments about Cloke making more money and having more success in the future by staying at Collingwood. IF Cloke went to Freo and led them to a premiership, he would be a hero for all time at a big club which is thirsty for success after sooo much failure!

SELFISH GREED and stupidity has caused all this, IT aint right for players, fathers, managers or whoever to demand as much $$$ as they can get in a team sport.

Pendles, Swan and Daisey all wanted more of the sliced up pie knowing full well that eventually their greed would see mid range and fringe players getting squeezed out like Macarthy, Leeroy, Neon & others.

Team harmony goes out the window when good honest battlers are getting scraps and performing just as well as Jolly, Daisey and co. Geelong and Hawks seem to have the right formula of sticking to a system that pays there good players 250/300k, its very good 300/400k and its very best 400/600k.

Pretty sure a bloke at Demonland like Nathan Jones must be scatching his head right thinking How come the club i bleed for thinks Mitch C is worth 800k and me only 300k.

He's good but he cant walk on water.

I hope this is true, but Cloke stays. The more Collingwood cough up to keep him, the easier it will be to lure Reid to Sydney.

He'd top off their forward line and bring them closer to a flag....just like Chris Tarrant....and...Jack Anthony?!

3rd time lucky?

Top post :thumbsu: Stop poaching Collingwood's forwards. Although the Tarrant one was good. Medhurst & Reid to the Pies and we get Tarrant back for Pick 44 5 years laster.

Free agency was driven by the players, through their union. That's what the majority of the players wanted. If Nathan Jones is unhappy he can put his hand up for a bigger contract to move to another club.
