Actually, Longmire was a full back in his first two seasons and played mostly as a ruckman in his last couple of seasons. If not for injury Longmire could have easily kicked 800 plus goals. I'd guess that he would have avereaged around 4 GPM when he was actually playing as a full forward. That is nothing to sneeze at.

I voted for Tredrea, but anyone that suggests he was miles ahead of Longmire doesn't know what the are talking about.

Just had a look at some early stat's. 21 goals in 88, 9 in 89. So mostly in defence those years as you say.

Longmire was actually rated as a better footballer than Carey when they were both juniors. He kicked 5 goals fewer than Lance Franklin to win the Coleman Medal and he was 20 months younger than Franklin when he did it. He was a top player that would have been an absolute star if not for being cut down by injury.
