From the outside, it is so hard to see where this 'surprise' came from as treloar has been linked to collingwood all year.

I mean North Melbourne were in the hunt and came out and said "we believe he has already selected collingwood"

Obviously richmond thought behind the scenes they were onto a winner. Perhaps they thought they were going to pull a buddy franklin/sydney type scenario.

In any event, it simply sounds like treloars manager used richmond as leverage to get a better deal at collingwood.

But there was no hesitation from treloar after the season finished to notify gws he was leaving and nominate collingwood. Itn didnt even sound like he had a decision to make.

Richmond is right to stay behind the scenes and strike if a deal isnt struck. The problem is that their public comments of dissapointment have surely turned treloar off the slightest prospect of joining them.

Why would you go to a club so publicly denegrating you?? I would say north melbourne are a bigger threat now...or even carlton.

In the end, we will get the deal done because we have tradr bait. We have a high pick, players like seedsman and witts who command top 30 picks and also the complete fall back position of trading next years first.

We can beat the tigers anyway they try. Our financial offer would be at least on par, we have better trade bait and also a decent trading relationship with Gws.

So again, its hard to see where the 'surprise ' comes from

I think differently. I think Treloar has already said he wants to come to us, so gws say to richmond, unfortunately we cant trade with you, as the player does not want to go to you.

On a bit of a sidenote, i heard today that our first and second pick this year nearly equals richmond first this year and possible first next year in terms of points for academy players. Not sure how true this is.
Yeah, our first pick and our second pick is essentially worth the same as the Tigers reported offer of their first two draft picks for 2015/16 (if the tigers improved slightly next year).

Tigers pick 12 =1268 points
2016 rd pick 14 = 1161 points
TOTAL= 2429 points

Our pick 7 = 1644 points
2nd rd pick 25 = 756 points
TOTAL= 2400 points

Freeman and/or Seedsman could net us picks to then go after Aish.

Looks like similar points but there's more to consider here, namely points to land their academy player Hopper this year. I posted the below in the trade thread.

Okay, so GWS want Hopper through their academy.

Let's say Hopper attracts a bid in the top 5 (which is where he seems to be rated), GWS then need to come up with 1,502* points to get him. Given GWS currently have pick 8 - which has a point value of 1,551 - they can get him at that pick. However, if Carlton were to get a band 1 compo pick for Kreuzer if we say offered him a biggish contract, suddenly all picks drop a spot and GWS end up with pick 9 which is worth 1,469 which is now not enough to get Hopper. So our 1st pick - whether that remains at 7 or drops to 8 - will be crucial in GWS getting Hopper.

It's certainly within our grasp to effect the draft in terms of it dropping down a cog. If we offered Kreuzer a juicy contract, that would activate band 1 and push GWS out of the frame to nab Hopper with their first round pick. Our 1st pick drops down too but we retain at pick 7 or 8 the points that GWS need to get Hopper. But even if we don't take Kreuzer and the AFL dishes out a compo pick to Brisbane and everyone drops down, the same logic applies. GWS would still need our pick 8 points to get him.

To put it another way, GWS need our pick 7(8) which is why Richmond's nonsense talk about blowing us out of the water with 2 first rounders is a sham. Their pick 12 (13) is not going to help GWS land Hopper. And in this draft it's a bit of a shabby pick anyway.

GWS want our first round for Hopper. If the draft order remains unchanged, all the sweeter for GWS. They can use their pick 8 to nominate for Hopper while using our pick 7 in the draft.

This is why people should stop shitting themselves about being involved in some bidding war with Richmond. Our first and a second round pick is more than enough to get the job done.

* the points required for pick 5 is 1878 but once a 20% discount is applied to academy players the figure becomes 1,502

Why pass on MK?

Well I have several reasons personally.

We dont need him (especially if Witts stays)
Giants seem to need picks not Witts (to cover their academy players)
He woudl undermine development
Hes no better forward than White
Hes always injured

And now.....the latest reason
If we paid up for Kreuzer the Blues would get band 1 compensation it would cost the Giants an academy player...hence making the Treloar deal a lot harder to land..

(If i read the above post correctly....maybe I didnt) Regardless Witts to Giants is needed for the MK deal to be remotely workable and this looks unlikely

I been Banned from the Adam Trelor Draft Trade Board.

Shows how Pathetic that Draft Trade Board iS now
I'm on the draft and trade board without you Davey
But you're still on my lonely mind.
I think about you Davey and I dream about you all the time.
I'm here without you Davey
But you're still with me in my dreams
And tonight Dave, it's only you and me.

Treloar wants us, we want him and GWS know we are the only team that can allow them to land Jacob Hopper while retaining pick 7 or 8 for the ND. It's a perfect, transparent triangle which we are all in the middle of. And if you look outside of it, you can see mute voices rambling and a tear or two.

GWS actually have two highly rated academy players, Hopper and Kennedy, plus a third that is expected go later inthe draft. Hopper and Kennedy are both tipped top 10-15 players though so they will need draft picks for sure this year.

How much depends on where they get picked, but KM has them going at 3 and 13 in his phantom draft.

3 (2234 points) + 13 (1212 points) total: 3446 points. Minus the 20% discount and that equals: 2756 points

So our pick 7 and their pick 8 total 3185, leaving them plenty to get their 2 main academy picks.

It'll be interesting to see how it pans out though. Due to the draft being very shallow, GWS might only elect to take their 3 academy players, and decide they'd rather an extra pick next year.

I'd be willing to part with our second round from next year I guess but our first next year would be paying overs.

Alright, I might have ****ed up the point system (does your nut in). Callum Twomey says that you can accumulate points endlessly to make the weight, although each club needs to bring in 3 players.

Nevertheless my argument about Richmond not likely to trump us remains in tact. Our pick 7 (8) can be retained as a pure pick while GWS make the academy points up with their pick (7) 8 (9) and/or various combinations.

In other words we still offer GWS a pick 7/8 while GWS can makeup the numbers for Hopper and Kennedy with other draft combinations.

Try being banned from the Cameron McCarthy one, the Adam Treloar one AND the Harley Bennell one.
Banned from the Aish one because bears m#d's don't like me after they trolled me last year on beams thread sending me smart arse private messages bragging about beams so they banned me cos I'm a collingwood supporter and I can't return the favour.
