Feel a bit sorry for Trent, spent his whole time at Port being played out of position and never used in a role that made best use of his strengths. He was quick and an excellent kick but was forced to run around trying to nullify much bigger key forwards. Probably did better at it than anyone could have reasonably expected.

"He is reliable, you trust him": McKenzie's lasting impression at Alberton

Trent McKenzie, "The Cannon", leaves Port Adelaide - and the AFL - knowing he fired his best shot in a 13-year career. He should be remembered for his commitment to the team game.

The reality is, it was the exact opposite. He was always a gun key defender typecast as a wing/HB, on account of folks understandably getting very worked up about his left boot.

Well done Cannon. Battled manfully against bigger opponents.

Never got to see him play that seagull role at HBF and see him kick 6 off the HBF.

Another player forced to play way out of his weight division for too long, because of the football orgasmic love of flakey flankers by Hinkley, Cripps, Parker and Davies.

Not sure how he was "typecast" as a wing/hb when he never played there (at Port). We'll never know how good he might have been if he was. I suspect he could have been a real weapon.

Read back through this entire thread. People initially salivating over him playing as a wing/HB (based on GC exposed form), perplexed why he started playing KPD in 2020 and continuing to demand a shot in his ‘natural role’, then slowly appreciating that he was an absolute beast as a key back.
