first year I've genuinely not kept as much track of votes or been as enthusiastic for the countdown, looks like Charli will break the record for most songs by an artist however. can't see anything toppling Chappell Roan, as much as I'd like Not Like Us to win it, atleast its not as bad as Doja Cat haha

Don't know whether it's a reflection of the H100 in general or just this year's H100 music being pretty average but I share your lack of enthusiasm. It could certainly to with a lot more variety and there's no real songs I'm hoping do better than expected, even my own votes. Is the H100 too predictable now, does it need a shake up?

I will post my predicted 200 later today.

you can say its the whole "we've aged out of the demographic" spiel, but truth is the j's have just become a full blown pop station that masquerades like it's former self.

TiKTok has highly influenced what will chart, and as most songs catered to the platform are catchy in the short term, long term they lose their appeal quickly as they're fairly repetitive or bland after that initial break out surge.

there is still plenty of great music out there, but when the j's choose to promote Beyonce (who needs absolutely no exposure, she's everywhere on every single pop radio station) over more talented yet lesser known local and international acts, what hope do these bands/artists have really. they've been so anti Taylor Swift yet championed Beyonce, its hilariously hypocritical.

I think its just time to accept the station as a whole will never be what it once was, and they're changing to try and stay relevant in a streaming/TikTok music society.

/rant haha

I won't have an issue with a song like Good Luck Babe winning, mostly because I think it's a fantastic pop song, but it still feels a little out of place on JJJ. I get that she's been making independently for a while, but I don't think she got any real airtime until this year when she broke through.

However, maybe that's just the 30 year old me talking and it does feel in place because that's more of what they play now.

Here's my prediction for 2024. Good listening everyone.
I noticed a significant mistake and had to fix it as of Friday 17:30.

No wonder I didn't remember much about this countdown. It's thoroughly unmemorable.

I didn't remember which year this was in terms of a winner, but the winner is how I remember where I was.

Now we're at number 1? The guy who's house I was at 20 years ago is now in jail...

This will be the year that I've given up inside of 2 hours and just come back to the last 20.

I don't think I've heard a song yet that I'd go out of my way to listen to again. Not to say they're all rubbish, but I haven't shazzam'd anything yet.

Goodness me

I mean at least I look at the 2004 list with mostly positive thoughts

Jeff Buckley - Forget Her... ugh, what a tear, one of my favs of all time. Didn't realise it was released this much later?

And The Butterfly Effect - Always at #99 - good for them! Hah, fav band of all time

And there's Starburster. This year's Not Strong Enough. Top 10 in WT and widely acclaimed as song of the year, but falls well short of the top 10. I'm honestly happy it even made it.

Sadly, Magdalena Bay might cop the Wolf Alice treatment, Imaginal Disc was a cracker, best pop release of the year. Hopefully, they're still in the 200.

Well there ya go. Have never heard that song

This is the only time of the year I listen to Triple J, mainly to see whether there's something I havent heard before that I could add to a playlist. Liked the sound of Physical Medicine by The Rions.

I'm less enthused about Gracie Abrams.
She's basically a home brand version of Taylor Swift.

I didn't think my picks this year were that out there, aside from one write in entry.

I've had one song appear so far :(

Jeff Buckley - Forget Her... ugh, what a tear, one of my favs of all time. Didn't realise it was released this much later?

It ended up being released on later re-released "legacy versions" of Grace, which felt a bit tacky, cos it was in it's final state when he decided not to include it in Grace, and his mother respected that when she pieced Sketches together, obviously choosing to include unfinished songs before including Forget Her.

All the live recordings and re-releases got a bit tawdry when it was his record company doing it and not his mother.
