Taper Jean Girl - Kings Of Leon
Mr. Milk - You Am I
Time For Heroes - The Libertines
Shark Fin Blues - The Drones
Is This It - The Strokes

For me 5 songs were clearly better than the 6th best, so I just left it there.

This is all personal opinion, not what I believe will actually be in the top 100 (though I think quite a few will make it). In no order at all, except Basket Case is the best song ever written!

Green Day - Basket Case
Foo Fighters - Monkey Wrench
The Easybeats - Friday on My Mind
The Living End - Second Solution
Red Hot Chilli Peppers - Under the Bridge
The Beatles - Twist and Shout
NOFX - Dinosaurs Will Die
Pennywise - Bro Hymn

Pennywise - Bro Hymn
The Clash - I Fought the Law
Bodyjar - Not the Same

Very, very good list. Respect for Not the Same. I had the same problem explaining my choices to friends a couple of weeks ago, they were saying stuff like 'you know Not the Same won't make it in, why vote for it'...and I replied that they were my favourite songs, not the ones I thought would make the 100.

If people don't vote for their favourite songs and just go for what they think will make it let's just hand the gong to Nirvana right now.

A Perfect Circle - 3 Libras
Clash, The - Rock The Casbah
Cure, The - The Love Cats
David Bowie - Let's Dance
Jeff Buckley - Grace
MGMT - Electric Feel
Nine Inch Nails - We're In This Together
Rolling Stones, The - Angie
Smashing Pumpkins, The - Tonight Tonight
Tool - Prison Sex

A few new, mostly older stuff. Things that generally shaped how my musical taste has evolved, although to be honest if you saw what I listen to now and compared it to this list you would be amazed (much more into electronic stuff now) but this is some of the stuff that I love and thus voted accordingly. Electric Feel is sort of the odd one out, newer but I just love this song and I think it's going to be one of my favourites for a long time.

Augie March - Cold Acre
Led Zeppelin - Achilles Last Stand
Pearl Jam - Black
Radiohead - Climbing Up The Walls
Rolling Stones, The - Gimmie Shelter
Something for Kate - Pinstripe
Sleater-Kinney - Jumpers
Tom Waits - Dirt In The Ground
Who, The - Love, Reign O'er Me
Neil Young - Slip Away

No particular order.

Stairway to Heaven - Zeppelin
Staralfur - Sigur Ros
Where is my mind - The Pixies
Reckoner - Radiohead
Fake Plastic Trees - Radiohead
Comfortably numb - Pink Floyd
House of the Rising Sun - The Animals
Gimme Shelter - Stones
A Day in the Life - The Beatles
High and Dry - Radiohead

Tough to not have any Dylan in there.

I feel the system is flawed and that the submission should have to be a 100 songs with no weighting on how you order the songs on your entry.

Daft Punk - Da Funk
Sigur Ros - Glosoli
Boston - More than a feeling
Paul Kelly - How to make Gravy
Oasis - Don't Look back in anger
Beatles - Yesterday
Creedence Clearwater Revival - Fortunate Son
Toto - Africa
ELO - Evil Women
Faith No More - Epic

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Frenzal Rhomb - Genius
Bad Religion - American Jesus
Clash, The - Guns Of Brixton
Dead Kennedys - Holiday In Cambodia
Dropkick Murphys - Bar Room Hero
Living End, The - Second Solution
Madness - Baggy Trousers
NOFX - Stickin In My Eye
Pennywise - Unknown Road
TISM - Greg! The Stop Sign

I reckon there should be some sought of criteria.
Influential songs like Bill Hayley's Rock around the Clock or Leadbelly's- In the Pines as opposed to Abba, Stones, U2, Sex Pistols or Arctic Monkeys even wacko have their own claim to fame.

I reckon a top 100 would be easier than a top 10.

I made up my mind years ago my No1 all time is - You Can't Always Get What You Want- The Rolling Stones.

i recommend you do it some time. last year i created a playlist of the 50 most important songs to me. ordered and everything. it took me about a week of pretty solid work to get it finished and i was very surprised with the outcomes and in the end i had to make it 51 songs

Guns N' Roses - Knockin' On Heavens Door
John Lennon - Imagine
Joy Division - Love Will Tear Us Apart

Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here

Since this thread got so much interest I'm thinking about adding everyones votes up and creating a list of Bigfooty's Hottest 100.

Thats if I can be bothered (but since uni exams are over i probably will be bothered).

Virtually impossible to narrow it down to 10 songs with so many great songs to choose from.

This list will do though.

10. The Triffids - Wide Open Road
9. The Stranglers - Golden Brown
8. Nirvana - Smells Like Teen Spirit
7. The Church - Under The Milky Way
6. Neil Young - Old Man
5. The Pixies - Monkey Gone to Heaven
4. Radiohead - Karma Police
3. Tool - Aenima
2. Radiohead - Paranoid Android
1. Tool - Forty Six & 2

Red Hot Chilli Peppers - Under the Bridge
The Beatles - Twist and Shout
NOFX - Dinosaurs Will Die
Pennywise - Bro Hymn
The Clash - I Fought the Law
Bodyjar - Not the Same

As always, after looking at my list I'd say only 2 or 3 of these are in the top 10. This kind of stuff is impossible as my musical taste fluctuates with my mood. And then mood aside, it all depends on what type of music I simply felt like. I didn't even put any dance music in and I've been playing for 7 or 8 years. I could make an entire trance, acid, techno, etc list that I would probably hold just as dear. I guess I shaped my list partly based on what I associated with Hottest 100's while growing up listening to them.

Muse - Citizen Erazed
Robert Johnson- Walking Blues
The Beatles - A Day In The Life
Eric Clapton - Layla
Jeff Beck - Cause We've Ended As Lovers
Muse - Plug In Baby
John Mayer- Belief
Radiohead - Paranoid Android
Dire Straits - Brothers In Arms
Modest Mouse- Missed The Boat

I just went with the songs that have had an effect on me, not the ones i thought would make the hundred :p

It took me until 11:55pm on Sunday night, but I finally whittled it down to 10:

Spoon - The Way We Get By
The Beach Boys - Good Vibrations
The Beatles - Get Back
Beck - Debra
Cold War Kids - Hospital Beds
The Dandy Warhols - Bohemian Like Uou
Eels - Hey Man (Now You're Really Living)
The Kinks - You Really Got Me
Sufjan Stevens - Casimir Pulaski Day
Wreckless Eric - Whole Wide World

I had that Spoon song in mine too. It took me bloody ages to get my 10 and in the end I just did a random draw from my shortlist of 40 or so (which took a bloody long time to narrow down to 40 :()

New Order - Blue Monday
Death From Above 1979 - Blood On Our Hands
Pixies - Debaser
Sigur Ros - Saeglopur
Nine Inch Nails - March Of The Pigs
Megadeth - Tornado Of Souls
Iron Maiden - Hallowed Be Thy Name
Spoon - The Way We Get By
TV on the Radio - Wolf Like Me
At The Drive-In - Napoleon Solo

Looking at it now I already feel shit for leaving out a few songs. Bah. I think I was a bit influenced by what I thought could make the 100 with some of my choices, whilst some others have absolutely no chance so it's all a bit confusing.

Yeah, I've already regretted a few of my decisions. The best way to find out whether it was a good list was to listen to all 10 songs in a row. I did that 3 or 4 times to get to the list I finished up with ....
