Triple J Hottest 100 of All Time

Not in my top 10, but I believe this is the greatest old school rocknroll song ever recorded. Perfect.

If nothing else, this thread has reminded me of alot of good music.

yeah, i think the whole process of making a top 10 has made me listen to some really great songs that i had totally forgotten about. one particular example is iggy pop/the stooges. i hadn't even considered them until i went through my record collection thoroughly and 3 of them were in my shortlist.

if anyone cares, richard kingsmill couldn't do a top 10, but posted his top 100. it was a pretty interesting read and i discovered some really great songs. check it out at http://www.abc.net.au/triplej/kingsmill/playlist/s2597789.htm ... and i just read the comments section and some clever little dick has found the youtube videos for all the songs in kingsmill's list - http://www.youtube.com/theshwatta#play/user/E3EC02C544DA8C18

Interesting list from Kingsmill. I knew his favourite song was Marquee Moon, so no surprises there. It is a good song. If you've never heard Television, check them out. Probably best described as the most self indulgent punk band ever. Got some great tunes on their first album.

NWA **** the Police at 72 was a surprise. Didn't know Kingsmill was a fan. I would have gone with Straight Outta Compton myself, but I guess F the Police is the classic.

Tool 46 & 2 at number 10. That almost made my top 10. Great song.

Also, Centrebet has stopped taking bets on the Hottest 100 now. Last I saw, Smells like Teen Spirit had come in from $3.00 to $1.50 to be number 1.

What are peoples thoughts on the possibility of a michael jackson song polling high. With all the emphasis on his music after his death.... well you never know.

Also what is everyones tip for the highest place "newer" song (say from the last 5 years)
My guess is Wolf like me, but thats just personal choice

I got my choice in at 11:50pm on Sunday night :D

Bruce Springsteen - Thunder Road
Ryan Adams - So Alive
The Killers - When You Were Young
The Jam - That's Entertainment
The Futureheads - Hounds Of Love
Stereophonics - Dakota
The Streets - Let's Push Things Forward
INXS - Don't Change
New Order - Bizarre Love Triangle
Australian Crawl - The Boys Light Up

Narrowed that down from a not-so-shortlist of 100. Unlikely any of those will make it into the actual countdown, but they're the songs that I like best :thumbsu:

Cold Chisel - Khe Sanh
Crowded House - Dont Dream its over
Deftones - Change(In the House of Flies)
George Michael - Kissing a Fool
George Michael - Jesus to a Child
Massive Attack - Teardrop
Pink Floyd - Money
Pink Floyd - Echoes
Porcupine Tree - Fear of a Blank Planet
Radiohead - Reckoner

It's a good lit from Richard. Lists are all subjective so it is hard to complain about one or two songs. Interestingly, I reckon, we would have 90 of those songs in our CD collection.

Kudos for the Something for Kate mention there at 52. By far the most underrated Aussie band and Paul Dempsey by far the most underrated voice in the country. One of there best songs too IMO. Nearly gets ruined by the slow middle but the first 2 mins is pure dynamite

When is this announced? I'm o/s so I might tune the net onto the J's for music for the first time in years.

I'm going to seriously lol if Love Will Tear Us Apart gets the nod, after sweeping the first two ever hottest 100's back in the day. Recall listening to one of them... i think the one that the Cure had 6 or so songs in the top half.

They start counting the songs, 10 at a time, at various intervals during the week starting Tuesday... then they do the whole 100 again on Sat and Sunday...Id check the website for times so you can work out time zones if you are o/s hp ;)

Here were my 10:

that's it for this morning folks... an interesting start to say the least... i've had 1 song in so far, with Back in Black... 90-81 at 4pm...

Cheers w00dy for the youtube links......

Not a bad start, the list obviously depends on if people have chosen their personal favourites (Franz Ferndinand/Modest Mouse etc) or if they have gone with the classics regardless of their popularity amongst listeners (Led Zepplin/ACDC etc)

No real complaints there.

Apparently 'Heart-Shaped Box' was #101. I heartily endorse the landing outside of the 100 of any Nirvana track.

In Utero had a couple of handy tracks. None would have ever been played on the wireless but they were good anyway.

And no I don't mean All Apologies or Rape Me or Heart Shaped Box.

Stealing w00dy's thunder, but he doesn't appear to be about...

And I'm bored.
