He didn't happen to rave about what a wonderful, professional, respected, inspiring, only-20-minutes-from-beautiful-coastline club we are for three hours did he?

Is that what he said? Cant stand KRock , its not biased enough.

have you ever wonder what list would look like if we had Pure FA . Anybody can go any where. Sign where you want but obviously must stay within SC? Under that criteria , my guess is the draw of family and perhaps friend to play together would be influence players choice as much as wonderful , professional , respected.......

Each week that Troy hasn't signed with Carlton yet the more I could see this happening. He won't go if not to Geelong, so if he wants to be with Daniel more he won't even go home because he'll hardly see Daniel back in Melbourne. Troy will be playing for Carlton or Geelong next year, I am 99% sure of it (1% gets offered heaps of money somewhere else but unlikely).

What would we have to give up to get him? No way Carlton will let him go if Geelong came after him, if he wants out and is amendment he wants to go to Geelong then maybe our first rounder and a Schroder type MAY get the job done. Still, hard to see it happening as Carlton would want the world in return if they were to let him go.

I'd still love to know why he'd want to leave Carlton in the first place.

How many brotherly reunions have occurred in the AFL offseason over the past decade or so? How many ex-Falcons have we ever enticed to 'come home'? That's roughly the chance of us getting Troy Menzel.

He wants to stay at Carlton, the Blues certainly don't want to lose him, there's no evidence that he is speaking to any other club and we wouldn't want to pay what he would cost.

Given Dan's issues not sure the club would be bending over backwards to get Troy given he already has chocked up one LARS graft.

Yeah, read an article saying because of his LARS op there is a risk he will need another knee reco at some point. Geelong definitely aren't a club to throw the farm at a player. Would be interesting to see what Geelong would be willing to give up for him considering his Knee and all the issues with Daniel. I know Wells said something along the lines of if he could have 1 player from that draft he would have Menzel so the club must rate him pretty highly.

I can't work out despite being a successful club we can't land a big fish, people may bring up Caddy but he wasn't a superstar.
Ottens was the last genuine big fish.

Between 2007 & 2011 we arguably did not need any big fish, but more importantly, we did not have the "cash" to lure any big fish. Surely that has changed? Ablett, Scarlett, Corey, Ottens, Chapman, Hunt, Harley, Ling, Wojkcinski, Podsiadly, Mooney, Milburn and others have left. This must have freed up room in the salary cap, even after factoring in increased payments to remaining players? We all expect this team to continue enjoying success. It won't happen just by relying on kids coming through.

While the Geelong culture is still being lauded and we continue to enjoy ladder success, we need to land some big fish, IMHO

I don't know how serious the Cats have been during the trading period over past years- apart from that fateful trip to visit one Mr Boak, which I think was more of a 'throw our hats in the ring' type of meeting than any certainty of getting Boak. Prior to that year, the recruitment group may have had a bit of a sniff around clubs but I think the McIntosh/Rivers deals and the Caddy trade were our first genuine trade forays for some time (since Otto). We seem to have been more interested in giving fringe players a chance elsewhere- sometimes getting picks, sometimes just a gesture of goodwill- than trying to trade players in to a list bulging with champions and potential champions.

I think when you fly your Head Coach, Captain (also a good mate of Boak's) and Vice Captain over to Adelaide (on the attempted sly) and then look very sheepish when caught out thus causing outrage from Keith Thomas (who knew nothing about the visit) as well as inciting the Presidents of West Coast and Sydney you are making a serious attempt at wooing Boak to Geelong.

My idea of throwing a hat in the ring is making a phone call to Boak's manager from the comfort of my office at the Cattery and leaving it at that. ;)

Most of the time, it's because we haven't been going for one. In the glory years, the club obviously put an emphasis on retaining its core to the best of its ability, rather than throwing money at imports...and rightly so.

I think the haul of McIntosh, Rivers and Caddy (three of our best 22, as it currently stands), would probably compare favourably to what most other clubs have done over the same period.
