Everything about him is impressive 21 test centuries with an easy on the eye technique in an era of great fast bowlers (including peak Windies) all while sporting a voluptuous beer gut.

The late 70's and 80's sides had players with personality (Lillee, Marsh, Thommo through Boonie, Hughes etc). The 90's and early 2000's they didn't have that personality, but they assembled a side of a caliber unmatched before and likely not ever to be seen again, so you could look past that. The last decade or so combining average sides with no or shit personalities and there's nothing that'd make me voluntarily watch cricket in any of the 3 formats these days.

If you like sports podcasts (even if a bit soccer/brit centric) I highly recommend the Socially Distant Sport Bar.
It’s become pretty big in the UK.
Episode 12 talks about how the underarm was karma for NZ cheating in the rugby 2 years earlier!
The batsmen for NZ was the guy who kicked the winning points in the rugby after NZ cheated.
