Please tell me they dont hold stakes/watch the cup in schools?
When I was in 3rd grade 21 years ago our teacher brought in a fake cash system to our class room for a term to teach us about money. So if we did well on a test or were well behaved etc she would give us a couple hundred fake dollars here and there, with the promise of an auction at the end of the term where we could spend our money to buy things like lollies or toys, stationary etc.
Melbourne Cup week they had us study all the racing odds and we could choose to wager our earned money on the race, which we then watched live on the tv as a class.

My mum found out about it after the race and was furious, called a meeting with the teacher and basically got her to stop the whole thing the next day.
We still got to do the auction, I think I had the most money in the class as well so I cleaned up with the lollies.

But yeah I don't think that could happen today in a class of 9 year olds

Watched THE APPRENTICE last night after reading about the difficulties they had releasing it in the US so close to the election.

Wont learn a whole lot new about Trump but Roy Cohn is an interesting character.

Overall very enjoyable, especially the first half. Reminds me a bit of a Safdie film (Uncut Gems) with the momentum that continually builds.

Worth a watch

Thanks for reading

If you want to know more about Cohn, the person who I consider to be the best journalist in the world, well she's an investigative journalist and they are just the way they are, Whitney Webb, has written about him.

But you will enter the rabbit hole.

There is definitely a lot of BS surrounding the Melbourne cup, but to put it into perspective the pool invested in the race world wide is now so big that yesterday's pick 4 paid in excess of 728K AUD, (ie $728,015.69.)

Not a bad return for a potential outlay of only $8.40!

That is the best plan.
