Jessica Jones is awesome, up to episode 7 and the casting is perfect... Its very dark and traumatic for a marvel show just like it should be. I only wish the language was a bit more colourful rather than limited to "shit" at worst, but it's a small quibble.

Because it was the first marvel comic with swearing in it and that really helped to highlight how stuffed up the characters were I do find it messes with my suspension of disbelief slightly. That's just the fanboi in me, it didn't matter to me that nothing worse than shit was said in The Shield or Justified.
Cool was looking forward to this. Its probably next on my list to watch.
Anyone checked out Continuum? Acting isn't the best but the story line is great, loving it.
Yeah I've watched about the first season and a half and its a pretty good watch. Time travel stories are usually pretty hard to pull off but they are doing it pretty well.

I've been showing my girlfriend Blue Mountain State the last week or so. Its pretty stupid but for a mindless quick show its not a bad laugh

Binge watching Peaky Blinders on Netflix. Very, very cool.

I really like Sam Neill in that.

In other Netflix news, the new Mr Show with Bob and David is okay. Not brilliant, but okay.

Tyrant is fairly decent. Same guy who does Homeland, Gideon Raff is the creator. Not as good as Homeland but it's worth checking out.

Now I'm a single nerd again, been picking up on the anime I haven't really watched over the last 7-8 years. One Punch Man is absolutely laugh-out-loud hilarious in it's first episode, but it's schtick does get a little repetitive after. I still give it a high recommendation.

I also binged on Attack on Titan over the weekend, which I had heard about for a couple of years, and was much better than I expected.

Attack on titan movie... not so great.

I figured that. I've also been recommended to watch Death Note, but all I can find is a live action series of it on Crunchyroll and none of the local streaming services seem to have it. I do have a VPN though, I've just been lazy because I have to switch it on in my router settings to use my smart tv or even chromecast with it.

Anyone watching "the Leftovers"? First season - apparently based on a book - is good, but just seen the penultimate ep of season 2, and it is amazing. Maybe because it's is not restricted by source material. Unbelievable no-one is watching this here or in the US and it is in danger of not making it to season 3.

Just finished watching it, wowsers. If Daredevil broke the superhero show mould, I don't even know how you'd classify JJ. Daredevil was brutal crime noir, this was a psychological thriller that bordered on horror at times (maybe). The Marvel Cinematic Universe has killed a lot of people, but not like this. Even in Daredevil there's a purpose to the violence. It's brutal and shocking, but you know why it's happening. Kilgrave kills people just because he can. A sociopathic, terrifying and occasionally pathetic and petulant serial killer/abuser/stalker is certainly something new. I'm not sure if it's a better show than Daredevil, but JJ>>>>> Matt Murdoch in this portrayal.

There are also a surprising number of Australian actors popping up on superhero shows right now, which is kinda cool.

I liked both JJ and DD, but I found decent lulls in JJ waiting for her to do something about old mate.

When he was more involved as the nemesis, things got better for me.

For mine, DD was better paced, but definitely lighter. Still both are Marvely... and I'm actually starting to think that world is becoming a bit saturated - every second show these days is some auxiliary character telling their origin story, and they're all very similar.

If you like a bit of comedy, Master of None on US Netflix is worth checking out.

It's excellent. The second episode totally hooked me.

It's got a Louie vibe but not so existential and bleak.

Yeah, that was an excellently structured piece of TV. I've been enjoying it so much I've been rationing it and am only up to ep4.

I thought DD really went out of its way to show you how noir it was at times (not that it was necessarily a bad thing), but overall it didn't really deal with the kind of heavy shit that JJ did. Rape (although it isn't explicitly shown), abuse, abortion and addiction are not topics you see mainstream tv handle very well most of the time, but I think JJ did that. I agree that there were a few lulls in JJ, maybe they could've included a few cases as side stories. Mind you, that probably wouldn't fit with the theme of everything in JJ's life falling apart over and over again, there is no 'normality' or routine (apart from drinking) in JJ's life.
Yep, definite Superhero over saturation these days. Just like Zombies 5 years ago.

I just find myself disengaging from it all.
I reached that point a while ago, but then the Marvel Universe started to get good. Just when you think you're out...
I still can't bring myself to be interested in Spiderman/Superman reboot #5739274 though. zzzzzzzzzz

I don't know why they keep on re-telling teenage Spidey. Most of us have grown up with college age/grad student Peter when he has been married to MJ. He's much more complex as an immature young adult then going through high-school angst over and over again. Of course, I grew up on 90's marvel and my mum's collection of Silver Age DC from the 60s so I have the contrast from extreme camp to grimdark and Liefield's "never to many pouches" approach.
