Blame it on drink spiking is the oldest trick in the book

It's also a common occurrence.

I have first hand experience.

Cynicism should be reserved for the moment (if) it's proven untrue.

Meantime our thoughts should be those of gratitude for his recovery, and faith in the club's resources and structure to educate and protect him.

Mark Robinson on 360 just said the issue was alcohol related.
I think you might find he's probably been off the beers for a long time then hit them with the same ferocity he would have before. Your body can't handle it like you used to. That's what killed Amy Winehouse.

If he's at training it clearly can't be that bad. Look it's not ideal and we're all assuming the worst based of his past history.
Light laps 48 hours later.

I expect he's left out this week. Has to tell the group how he let them down. The group says back to him that they also let him down in some ways. Hug it out. 10 goals against Freo

Or do the leaders go the Stevie J hard love route?
If the suggestion is that there are a few others testing the limits, then maybe a cultural message might be timely.

If anyone wants to get into rumours, there's a board for that stuff - but as per the warning over there:

Think before you post.

You are the publisher of your words. You could be held personally liable for what you post here or on any other platform. Details here >>

And a key point from that link:

A note on posting unsubstantiated rumors of illegal/immoral activities by public identities

We see threads started from time to time with allegations of players being involved in either illegal or immoral acts. Whilst this sub board intends to provide a place for discussion, it is not open slather to name public identities (AFL or otherwise) and make unfounded allegations which could be seen to damage the reputation of parties involved.

It's probably better to claim 'mental health' now

A zero alcohol policy during season should be mandatory- it is for anyone who wants success, but that's a different but true issue.
Absolute rubbish, that’s an old school mentality. I think it did happen in 07 because the club had a problem with partying.

Professional athletes aren’t robots, they need to be able to enjoy life to perform at their best, otherwise it is not good for the mental health of players and can put undue pressure on the result.

Well is it ?

In 95 when Carlton absolutely flogged Geel in the GF , however they were the top side , about 8-10 weeks out from the finals their players led by Silvagni and a few others got together and said no alcohol , banned it to after the GF

I might be wrong on that , but i dont reckon i am

Same I’ve been spiked twice and I’m a male so it does happen

Certainly does happen, and it's far from inconceivable that it might've happened here.

Idiots that do such things would likely see someone like Stengle as a 'notch' on the belt.

Thankfully it would seem that Stengle is recovering quickly.

Bruny Surin focused so much on doing everything ‘right’ including an alcohol ban, that he completely imploded mentally. Once he started living, amongst other things allowing himself to have a nice night out, or a glass of red, he equaled the world 100m record.

A lot of that old school mentality has proven to have negative effects on athletes.

It’s what our club does very well, footballers are adults and they are trusted to make the right choices. Worked pretty well for us so far.

Yeah, too right. Getting roofied is no joke. Has to be... rogue Hawthorn-affiliated elements!!! That's what an undisclosed source down the pub reckons anyway.

It's a sh*t thing to do to someone. I've never forgotten it.

If that's what has happened here I hope they identify and punish the idiot severely.

If the hospitalisation was a result of excessive consumption of alcohol/drugs then it is clearly unacceptable and a major concern. Hopefully there are conditions in his new contact based on behavior.

Hard thing to track down in all honesty I’m lucky I know who the two idiots that did it to me back then

Hopefully they can find a witness, or recover CCTV footage........

I've no idea who did it to me, and remain at a loss as to 'how'. I don't leave my drinks unattended.

Anyway, it has made me more 'aware' in the years that have followed, and hopefully this incident will make Stengle smarter and wiser going forward too.

That’s why I tell my daughter all the time to watch her drinks and to make sure her friends knows where she is and watches her drinks aswlel

Makes me very worried as a father
