U/16 AIS Scholarship Predictions

Reading between the lines and your past threads, you are obviously closely associated with the Northern Knights.

The main fault I noticed with Walsh at the carnival was that he runs flat footed and lacks pace. He has height but is carrying a bit of weight - this can easily be lost with a good pre-season. He was brought in as an emergency (and it was noted that all 3 emergencies Walsh, Wallace & Simcoe were all NK players ????). IMO Walsh didn't have much of an impact on the backline at all.

I don't agree with you at all on Cachia. Cachia is a great player and will get AIS, along with Scully and Blease.
I thought that Pasmans from the Ranges was an emergency, not Simcoe.

I'm impressed. You sure know your footballers, Sportz1. I don't know the Vic kids as well as you, do but everything said above is spot on, I totally agree.
I agree with you. I've been really impressed with the comments from Sportz1. Has made a lot of really constructive and accurate comments on the footy recently which is something thats doesnt always happen on this website. Good posters need to be encouraged so keep up the good work mate :thumbsu:

I
Anyway..... Here are my tips for QLD. And no I have seen none of QLD matches, but going on What I've seen of the kids over the past 5 years, these are the Gems- Declan Bevan, Jesse Haberfield ,Justin Harding,Tayler Rolfe, and a smokey- Ben Jencke Cain. ( The same 5 I tipped to be the standouts for the recent carnival).
Just a quick question, often the QLD kids have unusual sporting backgrounds, do you know if there were any this year in the 16s who have just taken up footy in the last 12 months?

There's a few from QLD new to the game that played 16's.

Of the names mentioned by pero, I think only Bevan is new to footy. Ex-basketballer IIRC.

When does this squad actually get named? how about we start a sort of phantom AIS predictions from every state. would be interesting to see any differences between now and when they are announced..

Sorry Macca69. Your info is not right. I saw Bevan play under 12 For Met North . He comes from the the Northside of Brisbane and has played every year since.
Brisbane is divided into 3 regions-
Met North (Bevans Region )during schoolboys footy (u/12 and u15), Northern Raiders.During u/14,u/16,u/18 years.)
Met East u/12,u/15 schoolboys. Known as South East Bushrangers during under 14,16,18's.
Met West u/12/,u/15. Known as Western Taipans during under 14,16,18's
Then on top of this, we have the Gold Coast region (Stingrays) Known as South Coast during schoolboys,
the Sunshine Coast Power, Known as Sunshine coast during schoolboys

To my knowledge, none of this current under 16 group are new to AFL. Perhaps the only ? is Rex Liddy a talented indigenous 15 year old from Nth QLD who represented NTH QLD Kookaburras at under 14 level as as 13 year old. This means he is in at least his 3rd year of AFL. The story I heard was he has an AFL scholarship. He is a cousin of a Nth Queensland Rugby League and "State of origin" star known as Matt Bowen.

Fair enough then, guess I heard wrong. Do you know if Bevan's had some trouble doing footy pre-seasons due to basketball commitments, or have I heard that wrong as well?

At 16 years of age "pre-seasons" would be new to boys in QLD. Although I understand some clubs such as Mt Gravatt start very early. Of course kids play cricket ,basketball and other sport as well during summer and this would impact on a persons ability to start football training well ahead of the start of the season. But unlike Victoria pre season is something senior footballers do predominantly. Bevan played u/16 for QLD (AFL) last year, and is obviously seen by Mark Browning as QLD's best chance of drafting at this age. At 195cm he's already AFL KP height. He has always been near enough to the tallest player going round for his age. I like the kid he has a bit of mongrel and goes hard at it in the air and at ground level.I think he's a cert to get drafted in a couple of years.
