R.I.P Dukesss
anyone started pre season yet??? any moves amongst players swapping clubs???
abers coach has gone on to bigger and better things as helping out at clader cannons.
the appointment of nick grant as coach of maribyrnong park under 18,s is a possitive move for the club.
Nick is the brother of shannon grant the north melbourne champ and has a great junior coaching record.
Hopefully this will give confidence for some of the under 18,s that came down early last year to come back to the club and also entice new players as well to the club.
Good luck nick , it might take a while but am sure you will do a great job.

Is Nick the brother that got into a heap of strife at an Altona game in recent years?
Led to believe Keilor have an intraclub match early this week followed up by a match next Saturday against Ringwood.how are teams shapping up for the season?? any new recruits for anyone??
could be a quiet year with Glenroy having no numbers, Marby park will be a disgrace again and Avondale probably no good again.
what happened to the players that wre sent off for Keilor? I heard Mick Mcguane told them all to leave club is this true??
Abers havent got the numbers they had last year but will be still a competitive side.
New coach at abers will be interesting how he goes as he has never coached above under 16's but does know all the players well and has been assistant the last few years.
Anybody got any practive matches coming up???

And this is a prime example of why there shouldn't be a second U/18's comp. Teams are already struggling for numbers........Keilor Park feed off Strathmore & Avondale feed off Keilor, its a good arrangement and works for most of the kids. It also demostrates good sportsmanship to the kids. I am not even going to respond to the comment on Marby, no ill will intended.
Clubs need to wake up at bit, every under 18's team needs about 40 players in each to be comforable for the season, anything less and they are kidding themselves. Hence I'm surprised West Coburg pulled the pin, as they had the most numbers to be able to run 2 under 18 sides.
But S/More & Keilor both have teams entered in the second 18's comp, so what happens to the teams that don't happen to be in a growing area for 16,17 & 18 year olds like Avondale & Keilor Park??? (there are others)
I remember in 2006, Avondale forfeited EVERY u/18's match, which cost them a pretty packet as well (with fines from the EDFL) and the kids hated having a BYE in their fixture but it looks like it will happen again this season with Glenroy's numbers decreasing. Very sad from my point of view.
When will people realise that having 3 or 4 under 16's sides in juniors, is actually wrecking the 18's comp, the 16's should be limited to 2 teams per club, or even better lets go odds, that way everyone would get a game.
We need to re look over the junior teams, and every club, (if possible) should have 4 to 6 under 10's & 12's teams, 3 under 14's & 2 under 16's. I've been around long enough to know that when the kids get to the 14's, they start to die off and by the time they are at 16's level, there's only the die hards left. They cull themselves.
There is a bottle neck in 18's as it is, this way it even's out the playing field. Of course, all kids want to play for the Keilors, S/mores, G/Vales & Douttas. So the bigger clubs get bigger and the smaller ones DIE. To me who cares where you play.....as long as you are getting a game and its not all about winning.
Or has it come down to money for all these clubs??? Lets enter another team so we get another 20 or so rego's for the year.
I am now getting off my soap box - but opinions are like assholes - everyone has one - and that is mine.........
Well done finally someone with the guts to say what most people are thinking.could be a quiet year with Glenroy having no numbers, Marby park will be a disgrace again and Avondale probably no good again.

abers have had two games beat St Mary Geelong by nearly 100 points and last week beat Douttas. Looks like new coach doing a good job. i think they have game Wednesday week against Tullamarine. Abers have kept some very good players from last years grand final win and with Pana returning from a knee injury should be a good team again.I agree totally, the big clubs go to great lengths to keep the junior numbers high. The top A-grade clubs have hefty bills to pay to get the team out on the ground each week and it can't all come from sponsorship. It woudl be interesting to see the annual reports from some of these clubs and see what the financials say, and if the revenue is identitfied.
But alas it is unlikely to change so back to the football. Anyone having practice matches, any results???
Keilor played Ringwood in a practice match on the weekend and although Keilor wonabers have had two games beat St Mary Geelong by nearly 100 points and last week beat Douttas. I would never read too much into a practive match. I have heard Keilor have plenty of players and they will definately be strong. My money is on Strathmore they kept a lot of there team from last year where abers and Keilor lost a lot to seniors. I have been told Knighta does not want to play seniors and even though he didnt have a good finals series last year i have been told he is a very good player.Keilor played Ringwood in a practice match on the weekend and although Keilor won
they looked very average not much height and will struggle to be Grand Finalists in 2009
unless a massive improvement is found in the rounds ahead.
My money on Aber's for back to back - wait and see.
i heard that Keilor won very easy. I dont know if both teams played at full strength. Sounds like the competition this year might not be overly strong. Heard that Avondale got pumped and looked pretty ordinary. I think Keilor and Strathmore will be teams to beat.A wrap-up on the Keilor v Strathmore Matches last saturday if possible please, for anyone that went and watched it.
