Mainoo had a poor game but so did quite a few other England players. Steinberg also gave Foden 4/10. There was really only Palmer, Gordon and Trent off the bench that rated more than 5/10.

At his best he receives the ball from a defender, spins off his marker, opening up the play. But in this game he was playing a lot of safe 5m sideways passes. Maybe he was under instruction from Southgate. His dribbles in the forward area didn't come off either. He's also a bit one paced. He needs to up his intensity when the opposition win the ball.

He's still very young though and he'll learn. He certainly wasn't to blame for the defeat. Stones and Ramsdale could have done better for the goal and the forwards didn't create much.

Rice and Walker were out of position for the goal. Attacker cuts inside Stones and keeper is beaten at the near post.

Better blame the young black fella in midfield.

I can't believe it's here. Germany vs Scotland Saturday morning. Portugal smashed Ireland 3-0 today in their final warm up game with Ronaldo netting a brace. He's still good for Portugal and will be amongst the goals.

My prediction

Winners - England
Final - England vs Germany/Portugal
Dark Horse - Croatia although how can they really be. Odds are tremendous for them. Again.
Flop - Tempted to say Italy but on recent form how can that be considered a flop. I have them making the Quarters actually. That's if they beat Albania and their first game will tell a huge tale.
Surprise team - Ukraine and Turkey
Golden Boot - Kane or Mbappe. Gnabry and Sane will net high for Germany

Good first class action right there. Italy need all 3 points with Spain and Croatia to follow ( for Azzurri ) in what is the match of the day and one of the best of the group stage. Hungary who many are tipping as a dark horse against the consistent Switzerland. But that 2nd match of the day between last years Nations league finalists is juicy.
