Was wondering the other day if somewhere down the track the AFL will just make their own station and broadcast all the games on there with their own commentary teams when we get to the end of the current rights deal although I'm not sure when that is. The plus with this would be you would no longer have people calling games who are affiliated with networks and maybe not the best callers (See Basil and Hammer).

Anyway my reckoning is that you'd need 5 'teams' to call the games over the weekend. I had a crack at making 5 teams up of 2 play by play, 2 special comments and 1 boundary rider trying to use existing combos where possible where there is already some chemistry. These teams are made irrespective of other commitments/plans for 2014 and beyond.

Team 1
Commentators
Dennis Cometti
Peter Donegan
Special Comments
Leigh Mathews
Mathew Lloyd
Boundary
Cameron Ling

Team 2 (in the same order, 2 commentators, 2 special comments, one boundary)
Anthony Hudson
Mathew Granland
Dermott Brereton
David King
Ben Dixon

Team 3
James Brayshaw
Wayne Shwass
Garry Lyon
Danny Frawley
Damian Barrett

Team 4
Gerald Whatley
Michael Christian
Jason Dunstall
Wayne Carey
Adam Ramanuskas

Team 5
Nathan Thompson
Tristan Foenander
Nathan Brown
Mathew Richardson
Sarah Jones

Anyway it would be interesting to see people have a crack at coming up with the various teams rather than just slating my list and saying "how do you like such and such" or "whoever is a flog" it's a tougher excersize than I thought but also you see there is a bit of quality out there that isn't getting much of a run on tv.

I dont quite get your idea.. Are you suggesting the AFL start their own FTA channel (for example lets just say channel 66 'AFL Channel' instead of using the major FTA networks??

Yeah something like that where the afl have their own dedicated channel(s) , not that it's likely to happen, kind of like if fox footy had all the games but was run and owned by the afl and was on fta. It's more just a starting point to see how people would structure a set of commentary teams, an interesting exercise particularly when everyone has their favorites adn some people seem to hate everyone.
