true lethal, the interpretations didnt seem to be consistent but we need to take every chance we have when playing a top side and we didnt

:) HERE in lies the problem. Blame the rules committee all you like, the rules of the game are sound! Dropping the ball is just that...dropping the ball. It shouldn't change from week to week. But you get three arse clows who CHANGE THEIR INTERPRETATION every week! Or every quarter. The discrepancy with what what constituted dropping the ball from last week to this week changed markedly, as it did for the teams involved. Only one team seemed to get the dropping ball decision to fall their way!!! Criminal!!!
Just umpire by the rulkes, not putting your own interpretation and spin on it!

terry and co trotting over to see geish , his mates and their seeing eye dogs is a waste of time . they will trot out the usual stats and info to prove that they actualy favoured richmond and the free kick count should have been greater.

kane's comments will have been far better value even if they cost him 5k

Umpires admit holding error, but Tigers left holding the bag

Michael Gleeson | May 1, 2007

THE umpires who awarded West Coast twice as many free kicks as Richmond last Saturday had made an error with the holding-the-ball rule, a review has found.
But the error was not as Tigers captain Kane Johnson and the black-and-gold army suspected. In fact, Richmond was given one too many free kicks for holding the ball.
The AFL umpires director, Jeff Gieschen, said the review of the match, which yielded 30 free kicks to West Coast and 14 to Richmond, delivered a favourable report of the umpires' game.
"We were happy with the effort — it was an average performance, it was not a bad game, it was not a fantastic game," Gieschen said.
He said umpires coach Rowan Sawers reviewed each of the holding-the-ball decisions after Johnson said the inconsistency of the rule had mystified players.
"West Coast received a total of seven holding-the-balls and they were all correct … and Richmond received four free kicks against West Coast for holding the ball and one of those was unwarranted," Gieschen said.
"So in terms of holding the ball, 11 were paid and we had one error and that was an unwarranted to Richmond. So they picked up one they should not have got."
Gieschen said the raw free-kick count was irrelevant to the umpires' performance. What mattered was accuracy.
"It was 17-6 at half-time and finished up 30 to 14 but there is nothing to say free-kick counts have to be even. Free-kick counts are based around what is presented to the umpire in the game. There is nothing to say they need to be even or nothing to say they need to be close," he said.
"What is relevant is were there major errors one way or the other? And at the weekend, there were not major errors one way or the other, it was just Richmond infringed more than the West Coast Eagles."
Richmond was sent a letter yesterday asking the club to explain comments by Johnson after the match when he noted the free kicks were "out of whack".
On the statistics alone, Johnson was right and although he said what each Richmond player and Tigers fan felt at the game, it might not be sufficient to save him from an AFL fine.
Gieschen, a former Richmond coach, said the umpires had made errors on free kicks for both teams but nothing out of the ordinary.
"Certainly, we had some errors to Richmond and we had some errors to West Coast we had a couple of missed free kicks for the Eagles and a couple of missed free kicks for Richmond. We paid Richmond some unwarranteds and we paid West Coast some unwarranteds but that is typical of any game," he said.
The review of the round's matches also found the umpires got it wrong and then right in first awarding and then cancelling a mark to Western Bulldog Matthew Robbins on Sunday.
However the decision to overturn the mark did not come, as Bulldogs coach Rodney Eade speculated, after the umpires saw the mark spilled on the scoreboard.
Gieschen said umpire Ray Chamberlain blew the whistle in anticipation of Robbins taking the mark but was uncertain after he had done so whether the ball had hit the ground. He said he looked to umpire Kieron Nicholls who ran down to confirm there was no mark.
"I asked them and neither of them looked at the video screen," Gieschen said.
He added that a rule change two years ago allowed for the mark to be cancelled. Previously a mark had to stand once the umpire blew his whistle even if he did so in anticipation of a mark that was then fumbled.

Not unexpected at all...it was never going to be any other way...I was bringing up the raw deal 2 weeks ago after the Collingwood game...and then again last week was going to post but thought I must be just seeing it wrong...I am about to watch the WC game now for the 1st time so thought I would get this off my chest before I watch it as I am going to explode I am sure. Over time though, we will be the force with the maggots cowering to Lids runing around the G doing as he likes!

Hope none of the players do a Fev though ...argueing while the ball is in play...how sad is that...Richo has been getting better recently.

WHAT A BLOODY JOKE!!!

What a load of bloody twaddle. I can't believe the dribble that comes out of that guy's mouth. And this review just shows what a proud, self-important tiger hating d.ick he is.

lmao at the three blind mice comment by KJ! Too right he should've given them a serve and he did, they deserved it. He's got balls. Hope he doesn't apologize like Hirdy did. Anyone know specifically what else he said? I actually like him now!!!! For a Captain to put his head on the chopping block like that for the team and tell the umpires what he really thinks is pretty ballsy. Geischen's just a @#$%ing twat. What a load of crap, he is seriously full of shite. And to suggest that we wouldn't have won the game anyway is shite too. What do you think's going to happen when the players are mystified and confused about the rules of the game? Who knows what could have happened. A free kick goes your way and it's a complete turnover with another goaling opportunity and one less goal to West Coast. Even if it's just 5 or 6 atrocious decisions. And what if it were 10? When the things that SHOULD go your way actually DO anything can happen. We were well in that match but the umpires just shot us to pieces. Actually, the umpires have been shocking to us all year and I don't understand why. I liked something I read somewhere too, about "the 3 late inclusions to the West Coast side" The umpires! lol Seriously tho, @#$% those @#$%ing umpires. Good on ya KJ. Stand up and be counted, or as Frenzal Rhomb would say, stand up and be cvnt3d lol, even if it does cost u $7k!

Admittedly it's possible that being such an inexperienced side they may have infringed more, but not from what I saw. Just frickin twaddle and I'm of the same opinion as Darth_Tiger. It ruins the game to the point of me not wanting to watch it anymore. The umpires have got to get their @#$%ing acts together - AFL is the worst umpired sport in the world. Foreigners who don't know the game get @#$%ing confused too and agree. Introduce the @#$%ing fourth umpire or allow them to look at the tv screens for god's sake, whatever it frickin takes.

They were at it again today. This time the Bullies were up against 21 on the field.

Interesting post game discussion on the radio, the commentators highlighted the high numbers they have been getting all year, something 50+% more frees for than against. Conspiracy or not?

People should know that they favour the Egirls something shocking. It's becoming a farce. And yet when an opposing team gets a free kick they complain like mad, and that's just after 1 free kick.

I don't call the Eagles the West Coast Umpires Pets for nothing lol

They always seem to get the better suck of the sauce bottle. Especially against the Swans :(
We got r*ped against the Eagles, no doubt about it. But if you're a swans supporter, don't come on here looking for sympathy considering the long term free ride the swans have got from the maggots.

Thanks for your support though.;)

We get an arm chair ride by the men in drag? I do like your sense of humour! ;)
