Nah, here's the perfect situation.

Opening bounce, Naita roves his own tap and runs to 50 and goals it. Whilst the ball is being brought back to the middle, Ebert, enraged at being dropped, runs onto the field in his suit and snaps Ballantyne in two. We win by 32 goals. Ballantyne is forced to retire and takes up a job as one of the dwarfs in Snow White on ice.

And the great thing is that given Ebert has successfully put Ballantyne into two pieces, he can perform the job of two dwarves in Snow White on Ice! Two very small dwarves, but nevertheless!

I was at the game, the umpiring was atrocious all round. We got the worst end of the deal but there was definitely some missed ones for the saints too. Saints fans around us commented on our poor run. The free kick count doesn't mean dick.

Obviously being a mod doesn't excuse you from selective stat quoting and just generally being a flog.

Someone then pointed out that 10 of our frees were in the back half (out of 19), and all of the Saints' 11 frees were in their forward half. No comment ventured forward on that one.

Umpiring is shit every match every year. Rule interpretations get changed every year, every match, every quarter. Worst umpired sport in the world. Still a good sport though.

3 free kicks missed in our forward line (inc Nicoski's in the goal square) all in the second quarter. One was Shuey being driven into the ground without the ball and I think the other was Kennedy with a similar thing (though I may be remembering it wrong, there was defnitely a third). Both were in front 35m out. Although Kennedy would've missed.

From the moment I found out that goose Margetts was umpiring I knew we were in trouble. He pulls decisions out of his arse and then refuses to pay similar ones if the going gets tough. Also the most gullible umpire in creation who falls for the staged kicks.

I agree that it was both ways for most of the day....untill the last 10 minutes where they seemed to try their hardest to get freo back in the game.

The umpires have to realise that they need to pay the obvious and let the rest of the ticky touch crap go.

The umpiring system is a joke in general. Obviously we got some shit ones but we didnt get the effect on the game Freo did. 3 awful free kicks followed by 50's to give them shots from 10-30m out.

How hard is it to umpire the game from the ideal that only pay one if you bloodyh well have to rather than look for every minor infringement, guess half the time and general act like you should be influencing the game at all....
