I cant think of to many sporting teams off the top of my head in aus that are named after snakes. so maybe cobras or vipers or just snakes.

I like it too. 'C'arn the Sunners!'. It's original and has a nice sound. Would look good as a club emblem too. After that 'the Sharks' but that's been used a few times before.
I think the whole 'Gazza the Lifeguard' thing is corny and puts the club one bad guernsey design away from being Fremantle Mark II.
I'm not sold on 'Suns'. It sounds a bit soft and so American... 'Rayz' or 'Raze' both sound tough, but are also American sounding.
So, it's back to pushing ye olde bandwagon.

On the Freo jumper, I actually don't mind it. It's original, though still has the hallmarks of a traditional jumper with the vertical tri-colours. On originality, it is certainly more so than North's/Collingwood's/Hawthorn's.

Just reading that Bluey interview yesterday, and with the club deciding against a nickname at this point, it seems inevitable that the club will chose its own name, such as the coasters or just Gold Coast. Keeping it simplified is a good thing, otherwise you run the risk of sounding tacky.
The Sun's is not bad, you can just read the headlines after the matches;

They wont pick anything unless it's REALLY popular which i think was the point of this thread (I dunno, I think I trailed off a bit). The way I picture it, a nickname starts, it catches on, it gets so popular that the club is known as that name by everyone, the club decides to make it official and even if they don't, the club would still have a nickname.
I think it should come from Stingrays or just Stingers, or how about Cougars i know it has nothing to do with the culture up there but either was the Bears when Brisbane.

Haven't they already decided to not have an official nickname.
I hope the AFL forces them to pick one like the 16 other clubs.
The Heat or Suns sounds not bad. Or maybe get in early and take the Devils before Tassy gets it
