Wenger must do everything in his power to get Karim Benzema to the Emirates in January.

He's French, so he'll immediately fit in with a French speaking coach and guys like Kos, Debuchy and Giroud with whom he's played internationally.

Plus the prospect of Benzema and Ozil reuniting that glorious ST-CAM partnership from the Bernabeu up to last year is a tantalising prospect.

Get it done Arséne!

We wouldn't pay his wages to begin with. If we signed him that would give us four forwards, far too many for Wenger. Madrid will also want a fortune. And big money signings don't happen in Jan.

Would you like me to keep going?

We have a war chest of roughly £50-60m for January and another £80-100m for the following year. He would sell for roughly £40m, which is less than what we paid for Özil.

Benzema would demand roughly £140-150,000 per week. Sure, it’s around £20,000 higher than both Özil and Sánchez however it’s still manageable.

And yes, please keep going. Tell me how it would be bad idea to get this guy up front.

Yeah the warchest of 50-60m we have had for the past few years and still haven't reinforced the squad properly, that's the one you're talking about right?

Ozil is on £140,000 a week and is the clubs highest paid player. I believe Sanchez is on £130,000 a week.

Big deals rarely happen in the January window. Big deals at Arsenal are almost an anomaly, let alone in January.

I don't believe I said it was a bad idea, anywhere. I just said it was terribly unrealistic, which it is.

Nah, shit will get done. Before last season, our record transfer was Santi Cazorla at something like £16m. Since then, that record has been beaten twice.

Benzema's spot isn't as secure as it used to be. Ancelotti is experimenting with Bale, Ronaldo and now James up front as first choice.

It's not as unrealistic as you think.

I'm willing to bet a large sum of money we won't see Benzema in an Arsenal shirt come February.

Get your head out of the clouds, it's not happening.

I'm not a betting man, however I think Arsenal would be stupid not to do everything possible in order to get him at the Emirates.

We are not getting a world class CF sadly, Im hopeful we will eventually get a quality DM though ( though Im still in shock we are stuck with Arteta/Flamini atm)

Just because it would make sense to sign him means nothing. It made sense to buy defensive cover and a first choice DM but that didn't happen

Its also unrealistic in the sense that we just paid 16m for a striker in Welbeck. That's a very significant acquisition from an Arsenal perspective. Just months later, we're not going to pay another 30m+ for another striker. Especially when Giroud will be back, so will Walcott. Wenger just won't spend up front. There's also Podolski, Campbell and Sanogo in the forward group.

I do hope he buys us the midfielder we've been desperate for in January, but given I've hoped for this for the last 6-7 years, I doubt its happening anytime soon.

Shhhh let him live in his world of delusion.

Yeah well Welbeck isn't world class.

Delusion or not, we need someone like Benzema to get us higher than f****** fourth on the table.

Giroud and Welbeck are good players, but are not at the level required for a club aspiring to be at the pointy end of the Champions League.

The Ozil-Benzema partnership would be significant.

We need a bigger squad to get through the champions league and compete in the league, not only a world class striker. I must admit I was hoping Falcao would go to Real then maybe some deadline day magic could have been woven to get Benzema on the sly
