I think it is more the it's time stuff, and with Dutton he will benefit from the same factors Trump did to win (cost of living), that is my prediction.

I just don't see it as some sort of rejection of left leaning values as the right seem to tout any election win as being. Mind you the left do it too, but no party in Australia ever seems to be out of power in any state for that long.
When conservatives lose elections here, the loudest refrain comes from them not being Right enough.

Reckon Dutton has to take some positives from the US election result. Be interesting if he really ramps up the anti migrant position

I mean that's just indicative of size of investments in the market, anyone with funds in the market would have made money yesterday - which is a lot more people than just billionaire's.
This is true
Also markets like to see certainty and where there is a clear winner/outcome to any election is generally always well received regardless of the party

They're looking, but only seeing this, so going no further into it.

Good luck with your deportation plans Donny…

Trump’s mass deportation plans would be costly. Here’s why

I’m sure his tariffs will cover the $100b at least that it will cost.

Even deporting just 1 million people a year is unrealistic and DonOld has told us there’s 21 million, maybe more (realistic figure is estimated at 11 million).

I both agree and disagree with this at the same time.

Problem is there are a lot of heavy left ideas that I think would win them more votes (student debt relief, expansion of affordable health care and being actively anti war)

But by the same token a lot of the left leaning takes on "culture war issues" (which to my mind shouldn't even rank in the top 200 of things to give a shit about, but apparently they do) that appear to be incredibly unpopular and turn a lot of people away. Anything you hear empty headed idiots refer to as "woke" tends to fall into this bracket (things like women's sports, gender identity of kids, diversity quotas)

So if they were to pivot towards the left without being too heavy on the culture war stuff they might have more success.
The culture war stuff is perpetuated by the right - not the left.

Populists like Trump and the conservative media have become elite at controlling the narrative and getting elections fought on their terms - which are mostly irrelevant terms.

I note Trump even walked back his immigration policy in his acceptance speech. To paraphrase he said “they will still come, there will be still be immigration, but they will come legally, legally” - ie. same people will come but they need to fill out a form now.

Trump stands for nothing except self interest. He won’t do Project 2025. He won’t end democracy. He won’t even ban abortion - he will simply say it is a state issue, out of my hands.

Trump will play golf and grift. As usual.
