Football is king. Generally the men's is after the 1pm games (so 4pm) there were times when CBS had the contract, the match would be delayed because of it. There's no way they would put it up against Sunday night football.

Only the women's final (again when cbs had the contract) was a night time final, that changed about 5 years ago when Super Saturday stopped being a thing
Yeah thanks, must have had my wires crossed - I remember following along with the last few mens finals at work but this is probably because the 2019 and 2020 finals have been four hour five setters.

Posted earlier in the thread that dreams may come true with Emma blitzing through the earlier rounds - She has a well-rounded and serious game - What I liked most was she lived a 'normal life' of finishing school, instead of coming through a Tennis Academy.

I agree, she does seem to have a pretty complete, attractive game. Moves well, plays aggressively, clean hitting off both wings and has some variety. She's also a natural media performer and clearly smart, photogenic etc. Gonna make a lot of cash.

Wow watched the final on replay and I didn't even knew who won. I'm stunned that Emma has had a 360 turnaround mentally since Wimbledon. She also beat Fernadez in a junior final three years previously which would of given her an advantage of how to play her.
Agree that they both are well rounded young women with a focus away from tennis as well and speak confidently.

Damn I have to get up at 4am for the men's final, lucky I have the day off. I might miss the first hour.

Shame that sbs isn’t still doing the very early morning coverage so we could maybe see Dylan and Stosur/Zhang. Good luck to them 🤞🏽

You can see Alcott live On Demand or delayed on SBS at lunchtime. No mention of Women Doubles, don’t think doubles is part of the deal.

What's with the 6AM start time for the men's final tomorrow? This means it's a daytime final rather than night, which is a bit of an odd change as the US Open final has been at night for as long as I can remember.
I did a bit of research into that same question last week. USO Women had first night final in 2001, then AO men (2005) and women (2009). USO Men is murkier, had late afternoon/twilight finals that started in sun and finished under lights (with night sky if not a beat down), after a few years of delayed finals (2008-12) espn got the rights from (fta) cbs and started their coverage in 2015. Of course night non-finals have been around longer than I’ve followed tennis.

Cheers matt_897 for the context about Sunday games, and how the women’s final changed since cbs. I notice the NFL season just started too.

6am feels accurate to memory of most uso finals. I remember I had to catch a bus to high school or head off to work around 7:30am and would be lucky to catch the first set or so some years growing up

Some history there. Very well deserved. 10 straight matches including qualifying. Only Let an opponent get to 5 games in a set once.

That's one of the most dominant grand slam tournaments in a long time. Well done Emma.

Just watching the F1 telecast from Monza (Italy) for the race on Sunday. The presenters made mention of the achievement & played acknowledgements by clips from a couple of the drivers who stayed up to watch.

Great to the sporting world generally applauded the effort.
A clip of Emma doing a 'hot lap' with Daniel Ricciardo earlier this year.
Multi times world driving champion Lewis Hamilton described the effort as inspirational. :thumbsu:

Thanks to Qualifying she gained 2040 ranking points from the whole tournament
That’s a record that’ll last a good while yet

I hope both have good teams around them and not some bs manager making them do things they don't want to do.

Parent/s are the key, as in most cases they are the players legal guardian's until they turn 21. Also, with the evolving accreditation, related policy and support resources available to players in the modern era, it means they can't just nominate their unemployed boyfriend's father to coach or manage them...
