Here's. Question and suppose its each to Thier own, but-

How far out from a trip would you expect to book. Flights, rooms, tickets to events etc etc.

I guess everyone's experiences will be different. Or priorities so to speak.

Just adding my bit. I'm planning sept-oct 2013. I'm expecting to book around may.

Lemme know :thumbsu:
Your going to start booking September 2013 in May 2012??!?!

You could book everything in September 2013 and be fine.

Booked one trip to the US on Saturday and left Wednestday.

Latest trip I'm more organised, looking at how internal flights change value and the best time to book. Booked the main flights 6 months out, the rest on an onging basis.

So it turns out when I'll be in New York the Yankees will be playing the Red Sox. Anyone have any experience on the best thing to do regarding tickets? Also, is it true that there's no drinking at games?

I went to a sox yankees game at yankee stadium last year - i got my ticket through the yankees website - booked on the 26th may for a 8 June game ( just checked my emails)

Cost my $57 a ticket plus $9 admin fee - worth every cent. At the stadium there is a very good section devoted to yankee history - during a quiet inning or two check that out.

Also once you get your ticket go to the south street seaport in the afternoon of the game ( assuming night game) and get your ticket for a free boat transfer to the game - nothing better than being on deck drinking a beer with about 150 other fans cruising to the game and watching the skyline of manhatten and Brooklyn drift by from the east River.

Here is some info on that : http://www.nytimes.com/2010/04/28/sports/baseball/28water.html

I'm of the belief that due to the time of games. Like tues weds thurs nights. The regular Yankee / insert team here fans, just leave after a while. Especially when they have work commitments next day. So after a while the stadium filters out and on can pressume u can spread out a bit more or wander to the fence etc etc.

You can only book 10 months in advance because international fights only get released 10 months before departure.

Can't believe that if your exploring the deep south, you aren't stopping in Nashville. Driving from Atlanta to Nashville only takes four hours. I would by-pass your Birmingham stopover and highly recommend spending at least two nights in Nashville if you can. Great nightlife and Southern Food on Broadway and I would recommend going to the Grand Ole Opry even if you aren't the greatest country music fan. Also Jack Daniels distillery is only couple hours away from Nashville.

Also, you only really need one full day to experience Memphis. Apart from Graceland and Beale St, their isn't much else to do.

Anyone visited Philadelphia ?

There's a chance i could be spending a couple of days there in June .
What is there to do and see and where's the best place to stay ?

Booked my US flights from 1st December until 7th January. Will be staying in New York for 10 days over the xmas period. Will be using airbnb for accomodation while im there. Where do you guys reckon the best area to stay in is? At the moment I'm thinking East Village is the way to go. Or am i better off in Upper East/West side?

I lived in NY for 2 years and visited Philly in 2010. Some dude tried to steal my wife's handbag there and I thought it was a bit of a shithole. We did go there in winter though.

Depends what you want to see.

There is nothing to do in the upper east/west side. East village is a cool place to stay, it's cheap, there are loads of restaurants, bars etc.

If you want to experience New York, then stay downtown. Better access to pub trans downtown too.

Just bought my tickets to see my first MLB game. Previous trips to the States have always had me there during their winter.

Bought my tickets straight from the Padres, fairly affordable too I think, $66 for the top tickets. Why not, never going to go for the first time again.

i agree with this although i am a devotee of the West village but hey any of the villages - east, greenwich and west are great.

If you want a great NYC experience - stay below 14th street !

anyone been to miami have any tips for getting to sunlife stadium without a rental car? from what i can gather from research theres virtually no public tranpsort to it and its in a fairly shitty part of town.

Hey guys, love this thread. Just booked a 3 week trip over christmas new years to the States.

Landing in New York on 13/12. Hired a car at Laguardia airport so transport is all set.

4 Nights Atlantic city
2 Nights Phillie
5 Nights Boston
10 Nights New York

The only part of the trip that is on concrete is the 10 nights in New York. That is from christmas eve onwards. The first 11 days we are still discussing.

Does anyone have any insight into good spots in the North east? bearing in mind that we only have 11 days to travel around before we go to New york

Can i ask why you've hired a car in New York ?

From my past experiences there , unless your planning plenty of day trips you'll never use it .
The subway is all you need to get around plus there's plenty of taxis .
All you'll be doing is wasting money on parking, petrol and the cost of hiring it i reckon.

All looks good except...

4 nights in atlantic city is 3 nights to many (ok 2 nights if you like gambling at casinos). From AC drive down to Cape may - about 2 hours and spend a night there - a beautiful fishing town with stunning cape cod style architecture.
