Who cares though? It's just a number.
I dunno if it’s that simple for everyone
I understand that for some, even a lot of people they are just numbers but for me some numbers have more significance to the history of the club be it long term or even short term and that history can create a bit of identity that should be respected and that mystique can continue to grow with the right players been given those numbers

Can't that be done with any number though? If Dusty had stuck with number 36, that'd now be a 'sacred' number.

Of course but he didn’t and now he’s another name that has worn the number 4 who is a club champion and part of the legacy of that number

One thing I don’t mind about the whole earning the number thing is that it kinda mitigates a “dud” draft pick getting a really good number

Sometimes players just don’t work out or live up to the hype of draft night

Imagine Sonsie running around in a sub 20 number when he still hasn’t really shown anything

Dees, Eagles, Crows and Blues have all released their new numbers that I've seen.

Our media team asleep at the wheel again...
No one has the balls to tell Lalor that he can't have #4. Don't blame them he's built like the Hulk

Give
Lalor 9
Smillie 6
Hotton 10
Maurice 17
Faull 8
Trainor 22
Armstrong 12

But I reckon they’ll start them high. Just please don’t give any single digits to Brown, Sonz, Banks, Young, Campbell, Green etc

Only one of that bottom list I'll disagree with is Campbell. Last year was essentially his first year, played most weeks and from all reports has been the standout so far at training.

I wouldn't be outraged if they decided to give him the #7, but also happy to wait another year to see how he goes in 25.
