While we're on the topic of big Finals qrts, thought id throw in the BT U/19s last year against Fitzroy. 10.8 in the last to 1 point. I know this is a D1 thread but BT are a D1 team (some of the players from that side play D1 currently) and Fitzroy are on their way back down. :D

Do you think a BT Fitzroy rivalry will be relevant next year? I sure hope so!!

Good call Sandy. I'm sure Conduct will find something negative though.

Mick how was training? did the boys have a quiet night on Sat? or tip a few in?

Quite possibly Sandy - I'd expect next years' seniors should have 3 or 4 of the guys who played in that awful last term, whilst a few more will probably play regularly in the reserves.

Would certainly make for a bit of extra interest when they clash in 2008. :thumbsu:

With the resumption of the Latte Cup between the Reds and Prahran, as well as the continuation of the RedNOB Cup, perhaps we will need to strike a new trophy in memory of that withering finish from BT. Maybe a "Rampaging Red Bullant" Plate (well it's a starting point!:D)

Anyhow - save that for next year - let's get back to the 2007 finals.....

Oh and the Team of The Year will be in this week's Amateur Footballer. Bound to throw up some controversy, but at least I went for the obvious choice this season re: Coach. Last year I chose the Ajax coach over Beveridge from St Bedes and copped an absolute hiding!!! Given the Jackas had just won promotion to B section in the biggest 2nd semi boilover in memory, I thought it a reasonable choice, but some people disagreed!

Bound to happen again.....

Standard night on th track, HBP. There wasn't much tipping to be done. Being a Sunday game most had work to get up for in the morn. Not to mention we're not overly phased with winning a 1st semi. Aim is to be the 2nd team to replace the relegated RedNOBS, then hopefully have a flag to celebrate it.

About as well as the raiders did this year. I reckon they might be headed for d2 as well.

I wonder whether the raiders will go for an experienced coach this time?

Perhaps even reinstate the previous coach?

Wrong thread Dale!

Nope, that was a seriously awesome result that should go down in folklore.

Just wondering..was that the GF where BT was fined by the Ammos after an investigation into the unacceptable behaviour of their supporters during the game?

Don't know what is termed as 'unacceptable' we had a massive crowd behind the goals as no other teams were playing that day.. when we got a run on the crowd got louder and louder.. kicking 10.8 in the last quarter was pretty exciting so we were getting behind the boys.. we kicked a goal and the goal umpire called it a point, when we were 2 goals down and we all ran down to the fence, and then it was overturned by the field umpire, but we made a fair bit of noise lol.. then you could imagine the emotions after the game when we had kicked10.8 and won by a point and everyone ran onto the ground and singing the club song until one goal umpire didn't have the right score on the scorecard.. timekeeper, interchange one goal ump and the scoreboard had the right score but the game wasn't decided until the next day.. which BT won after viewing the video of the game.. but BT were giving a warning about crowd behaviour, but you can tell why..

It's amazing what a grand final can do to footy supporters all over the country no matter what grade or league they're in, they go beserk.

I'm pretty certain the club your are talking about were found guilty of Conduct Unbecoming and were reprimanded as well as being handed a fine of $200

Well done footyfan...wondered who would be the first to pick up on that one!

Nice explanation Judda. Don't blame you for going nuts!!! I see you were on the Port Power thread re N Batsanis..was he a BT junior?

Reds and NOBS in 2008 - would expect Reds to mount a climb back up the divisions again with their junior set up and huge numbers.

NOBS are appropriatley titled. Nothing about the club ever appealed to me when we played against them. Nothing.

Hampton to take out the title, and remain in C Grade for a while.

Oakleigh to climb up to C Grade (and then watch Oakleigh Districts try to poach your players if you manage to stay up there for a few years).

Interesting result from last night's appeal at the tribunal. The suspended player having his suspension overturned and a "scapegoat" receiving 4 weeks for his troubles. Interesting to note, the player whose suspension was overturned played all but Rd.1 in the seniors and the newly suspended player had played the 8 of his games in the reserves. Also played the reserves 2nd semi final last week.

One word - Patsy - Anyone ever heard of Lee Harvey Oswald? Maybe it was he who in fact is responsible?

OutRAGEous!

the league representative came and spoke to us about banging the fence when the opposition was kicking in from a behind.. someone gave him lip and he stormed off.. think that was the main reason he wasn't happy.. $200 for riding the boys home from 66 points down in the last quarter of a grand final isn't all that bad though..

An interesting comment ... I was under the distinct impression that clubs could not appeal tribunal decisions and they were 100% final, this has come from the mouth of the horse in the chair man of the tribunal, Bruce McTaggart.

He has said that he believes the integrity of the system is compromised when an appeal system is in place and if players have the right to appeal why shouldn't Umpires? We could all argue whether this is correct until the cows come home (much like the way in which people are talking about the AFL Tribunal System) but this what I had heard directly from him ... so could a club appeal as you have said above Uncle Mick?

Given a player was suspended for 2 weeks at the tribunal last week and the decision was overturned last night, I'd say there was an appeal. Tribunals aren't my forte, but I'd imagine that would be the result of an appeal...?? Was more intrigued by the finding of one player guilty last week, then having another found guilty and the penalty upgraded whilst the initial "offender" had his decision overturned. Not privvy to the process, I'd imagine we'll know more about it tonight, but it's an interesting outcome given there's no conclusive visual evidence.

I can't understand it. In the Phil Stevens era, when a tribunal or an investigations committee handed down a decision it was final. My only guess is the reason why the decision was overtuned (possibly by either the VAFA Executive or VAFA Football sub-committee) is that the VAFA don't want another 'Beaumaris 2000 court case' hanging over their heads again. That was where the VAFA investigations committee found a Beaumaris player guilty (when in fact he wasn't) of a on-field incident of the eve of the C Section Grand Final, where Beaumaris was due to play Therry Penola. The Beaumaris club took the VAFA to court and lost the case and was forced to pay court costs. The court decision was handed down 24 hours before the grand final and Beaumaris later lost the grand final by 4 goals. In my opinion, I don't think Beaumaris should have taken the VAFA to court. They should have directed their anger instead on the scoreboard at the 2000 C Section Grand Final. Compare this to Norwood in the SANFL. In 1997 Norwood and SANFL legend Garry McIntosh was suspended for 1 match by the SANFL tribunal for an on-field incident in the preliminary final. Norwood could've taken the SANFL to court to get McIntosh off, so highly respected was McIntosh by the Redlegs, but the fact that they were playing bitter rivals Port Adelaide Magpies in the grand final, the Redlegs thought a court case was not the best option as it would take the focus away from the grand final. Norwood ended up beating Port Magpies by 12 goals.

I can't still work out how can one guy originally get 2 weeks, goes to appeal, gets his sentence overtuned, yet the other player gets 4 weeks by the same investigations committee? If you think the AFL tribunal/appeals procedure is strange, the VAFA version is bizarre. I guess both versions are being run by Andrew Demetriou and Adrian Anderson.

Going on the above post, it seems we have uneartherd a bigger muppet than one D.Cleary....if possible

Whatever buddy. It's funny how all you people want to talk about me but i couldnt care less about any of you.
I'm sorry my football ability is that good that it annoys you.
