Most Improved Boundary Umpire - Peter Monotti

Boundary umpiring award??? Pllllllllleeeeaasse!
I thought these were the blokes that couldn't cut it as field umpires, besides, how can you improve if you are a boundary umpire, either you can do it, or you can't. Not that hard though!

As for your lot though...what the bloody hell happened?

Further, how you could rate it as a low B game, yet in the same sentence say Xavs would beat most A sides is bizarre.

A Reserves, B Seniors. Aint that hard.

Have no issue saying Xavs would beat NOB's or Mazenod.

Some guns run around for Club 18's, difference between a Club 18 player at A Grade & a Reserves player is the reserves player goes to trainning preseason, the Club 18 player doesn't. Fitness is a big part of VAFA, but as far as skills goes, isn't a lot of difference.

Umpires Dinner last night.

Well done to Vin Vescovi and Bernie Jephson on the life memberships.
Well done to Paul Tuppen, David Murray, Peter Griffiths and Tim Sutcliffe on 10 years service.

Main awards went to:

Golden Whistle - Joe Hartwig
Most Improved Boundary Umpire - Peter Monotti
Most Improved Goal Umpire - Gavin Roberts

(due to current state of health, missed the Best First year and Most Improved Field Umpires)

The Bob Dunstan Award - Sue Anderson
The late Andy Carrick Award - Michael Forde
What happened with the fight?

Big week at the Gillon this week, with the nobbers hoping to have one last win in B Section. There has also been rumours that the Third (and some say best) Sheehan will be brought into the senior team to spark a victory. There is also talk of a player mutiny (led by SM-C) if the above does not occur.

I can also give you a scoop that this week will be the final game that North Old Boys will exist in the present form, with a name change and merger planned for 2006. It is exciting times at the Gillon and to all those clubs out there who have star players from a certain School in Ballarat, look out. Details to follow.

Does the Committee deserve a big Pat on the back for organising the merger?

:D

As long as they change the jumper colours, I think we'll welcome the change!!

Best of Luck with it.....

You dont miss much Scribe, hopefully it can turn the clubs fortunes around. As anyone who has seen us play this year would attest we were on a slippery downward spiral. Once confirmed this should rejuvanate a once great club. Looking forward to C Grade 2006.

Last weekend of regular season for some, first weekend of finals for others and this week's A and B grade fixtures throw up plenty of drama and intrigue.

In A Grade Xavs host Uni at 'Rak Park where they've been dropping more games than usual. The hosts could still get the double chance if OMs topple Scotch but methinks they won't take care of their own backyard anyhow, Blues and Scotch should win to see Uni in 2nd spot and a Scotch -v- Xavs cut-throat blockbuster at Box Hill next weekend.

Elsewhere, Trinity host St Bernards and a win is a must for the T's to make sure they stay up in A Grade. Collegians will throw everything at Haileybury who have nothing to play for, but neither do Bernies, so it may well be that both lower ranked sides prevail in those ones. Finally, the Marcellin -v- SKOBS game means absolutely nothing, so unless there's a melee in the 3rd quarter, I think it'll peter out to a small Eagles victory.

In B Grade, the key games are obvious, but essentially MHSOB and Old Essendon battle for 4th, whilst St Bedes MT and Mazenod fight for 8th. Given the 2 higher ranked sides play the 2 lower, they'll be serious hum-dingers. I have a funny feeling the Nodders may upset the High and send Old Essendon into the finals, and St Bedes MT to C grade.

Best of luck to all involved (except the Boys from West Essendon)

That name has been mentioned in the same sentence as the fight

Wonder if Anthony Damen was in attendance. From recent reports, he'd handle himself pretty well.

Guys, don't you think it is wise to not discuss something that is a legal matter?

Well, in light of the Grant Thomas/umpire abuse matters, perhaps such lively discussion will assist in further raising the profile of umpires as being people who have genuine feelings as well. May promote understanding and compassion within the players' ranks.

Y'know, for the love of the game, and all that.

:D

All the legal system requires is that the facts are canvassed, we cannot damage anybody's character if we talk the truth.

Let us have it Pazza..... Why don't you gives us the situation without the names....

Damen was the umpire who punched a spectator? Or something?

Him and Firley umpired the D4 rematch from hell a few weeks ago. I also believe Pazza goal umpired. Michael Sholly was in attendance and called the game off 6 minutes early when it looked like getting out of hand. Damen should have slugged him for calling it off!

Also, Firley is a cheat and a liar.

Blues have been discussed on this board before and you didnt have a cry then. Is it because this has to do with umpires? Or is it because of the gender one of the parties?

If so, then that's absolute gold. Nothing wrong with a bit of niggle.

Squeak - calling an umpire a cheat/liar is silly, plain silly. Let it go......
