Hi people, just wondering if any of you have had any dealings with Glenn Taylor, he coached at La Trobe Uni this year. He has applied for the coaching job at my club. Thoughts?

I think he used to co-host the Channel 7 news with Jenifer Keyte, back in the days when they were outrated by Inspector Gadget.

Just wondering if anyone had any news/views about the falling out between Dan Culllinan and Brett Dobson? Apparently they were pretty good mates, but Dobson has been quite p****d off (as have a number of eagles teammates) at some of Cullinan's antics, to the point where one of them may be looking for a new club in 06... With Joel Rice a chance to play VFL (or maybe even AFL..) next year, I doubt Marcellin would want to get rid of one of the best on-ballers in the comp, in Dobson. I'm actually surprised that Cullinan has played in the ammos - although I have never met him personally, I've watched him play a few times and heard quite a bit about him and he seems the type of guy who would love playing for $$... Anyone heard anything, or know if one of them are looking for a new club?

I know they're very good mates. Maybe they're a bit like Dennis Banks and Darren Millaine, who would apparently drive together to training, get in an argument, pull over, beat the lving daylights out of one another, hop back in best mates again ("I luv ya Pants!") and rock up to training sporting black eyes and all. This happened quite regularly apparently.

Cullinan was supposed to leave last year but didn't. Marcellin are very tight knit so it would be a turn up.

Scribe2, I know that they have been "very good mates", and indeed, they may have a similar relationship to Millane and Banks and I'm a bit off the mark, but I was told be a Marcellin player (who frequents the harp and other drinking places with them), that Dobson has had enough of Cullinan and not so long ago hit him in the face. Do you know for a fact that they have been "very good mates" over the past month since the alleged incident took place? If so, it's likely that they have made up, ala Millane and Banks, if not, then there's a distinct possibly that I could be onto something (which I believe I am) and that it's gotten to a point where one of them MAY be looking elsewhere to play in 06...

I'm not sure I'd necessarily say Marcellin were a "very tight knit group" given the fact that a player is telling me this story and the fact of their straight-sets finals exit in 04 and thier capitulation in the last round 05...I'd expect more from a "tight knit group". In particular, some of the playing group are not as "tight" with Cullinan as they used to be..

Will Fitzroy Reds be able to recruit any big name players to C section next season? Is C section high enough to recruit some big names? What are your thoughts? Any old roy boys running around in the VAFA that might comeback to Fitzroy?

The Reds have a great website. Maybe the best in Amateur footy. Perhaps you could look there and stop bugging the rest of us here. And take Ben "I never hesitate to talk up my old club" Carbonaro with you. And stay there.

Guinea - if Cullinan leaves because he's fallen out with Dobson it's not the biggest shock to hit Ammo footy. Happens regularly and perhaps the Marcellin crew had to work hard to keep him last year anyhow. If so, it may be wise to let him go and chase the $$$ (if that's what he's likely to do). NB - they didn't go out in 'straight sets' last year, unless you mean it was a best of one. They lost the 1st semi to OT by 10 goals.

Caveman - never has so much time and effort been put into discussing a club which has just qualified for C Grade for the first time. At the risk of perpetuating a topic which is also annoying me, I will make one last post concerning the Reds. In answer to your 4 questions:

No - no ex-schoolboy link
No - unless they're ex-schoolboys (e.g Harford at Parade and Taylor/Loats at Camberwell) they won't come.
See above.
To my knowledge, Jon Rombotis was the last, and he left SKOB last season.

Frankly, the only people who have a misty-eyed affection for the defunct FFC and their resurrection (in-part) through this C Grade VAFA club probably never kicked a footy in anger seriously enough to be called a 'big-named recruit' if they pulled on the boots in '06 - that's the way it is likely to stay. In my opinion, growth and prosperity will have to spring from within.

Here's something out of left-field ...

... with the continuing increase of interest in opposing sports, ball codes and football codes at school level, how will this affect the status of schools old boy clubs in being the ones that present the strongest depth?

Are the schools still promoting footy as a 'be-at-one-with-your-freaking-school' curriculum item as much as they once did?

Regional clubs once peppered the top grades, eg Ormond, but that has become much more difficult over the years as the feeling of community in suburban Melbourne has pretty much evaporated. A suburb name or region just meant less and less as time wore on.

Underneath the skin of society, there is a backlash against such sports as aussie rules. Part of this is due to an increased maternal say in household directional issues, but there are other factors, too.

This would be believed to adversely affect participating rates at school level. It probably does. But to what extent? How far has it gone? Are school footy clubs happily and easily absorbing the punch? Or is there some attrition?

i can categorically confirm that the the chunky one and DC had massive blue, at Blue of all places..........they were arguing over who had had more Jaeger Bombs in the 72 hours after the last round 'capitulation' against St.Kevins, which the Eagles needed to win by about 375 points in order to jump Old Xavs and sneek into 4th place........it really wasn't a pleasant sight.........

It might affect the depth of post-high-school football participation across the board - with more high school players choosing other sports like rugby, basketball and soccer. I doubt the Old Boy clubs would be more greatly affected, unless it is because they offer rugby & soccer when state schools wouldn't?

Frankly, the VAFA have managed to run 48 U19 sides this season just gone, the vast majority from schools, so I can't see it having much of an effect to thsi point. If anything, we're benefitting from the perceived thuggery of some suburban leagues, attracting players who can't play U18s but don't want to step up to senior footy and get whacked. The relative cleanliness of our competition and that extra under-age year are two very big plusses.

Are the schools still promoting footy as a 'be-at-one-with-your-freaking-school' curriculum item as much as they once did?

Ours does, but it is acknowledged that rugby and soccer have provided two very viable (and successful) alternatives. Those who really want to play will continue to do so. Usually those who filled and school 3rds or 4ths side didn't continue playing after year 12 anyhow.

There might be a slight drop off. Some A and B Grade sides aren't fielding strong U19s, or sides at all sometimes, and this may mean the link with the school footballers is somewhat tenuous. Again, I believe its the schools which are offering soccer and rugby who are experiencing this more often.

Sides such as Haileybury, Old Essendon, North Old Boys would want to resurrect their U19s ASAP or risk losing the 'next generation' pretty quickly.

Stuart Lowe and Jurica are playing for the Tigers next year with former Frankston player Anstey

Are you talking about stuart buckets loewe who played for St Kilda, or Stuart Lowe who has played 11 games in 5 years but continues to get picked in the VAFA state side each year.

I think he plays for old ivanhoe so he'll be back in A Grade next year. Didn't see him play any footy this year or last but saw him kick 4 against old xav's one day out at toorak park.

In other news Cullinan of the Eagles is rumoured to be headed for the WAFL in 2006 with his mate Rice. That would surely take the heart and sole out of the eagles (or at least the guts in cullinan's case)

I have heard that one Stuey Loewe and Stephen Jurica former richmond player will be playing at the tigers next year along with sam anstey from frankston. Other big recruits that they may get are a few boys from haileybury college coming out of year 12 this year.
Sam Anstey can play, should have got drafted after capataining the dragons 18's to a flag. I think he played a few games with collingwood reserves and then went to Port Melbourne before heading to franga with Phibbs.

I heard their both thinking about playing A Grade next year and if they do look out.

Other blokes I've heard who are thinking about playing A Grade if the right strings can be pulled
-Gerard Bennet (Former swan)
-Tim Fleming (back to xavs)
-Ross Funke (tigers and demons)

Can anyone confirm any of these?

Thanks for your advice mate but as this is the VAFA forum I will ask what I like about the Reds. Cheers for your kind comments though! :p

I think you are forgetting that Soccer will never thrive because of it's massive dependance on ethnic groups who can't even watch a game without getting in to a riot, rugby is far too brutal for most mother to let their sons play and lacks the glamour and fame that football can provide.

The VAFA will continue to thrive as long as local comps continue to be the playing fields for thugs. However the massive $$$ in the EFL and DVFL as well as country leagues is a worry.

I've read this so called great A grade summary. The two clubs it bags the most went on to win the next two premierships. No wonder the author has never come forward, who would claim such rubbish.

he isnt playing, also there are quite a few former players rumored to be returning from parkdale, mordialloc and east brighton, should be a pretty good team for c section

Bevridge has been appointed as a non-playing coach.

Ansty, if he does play, will play for St Bedes, as he went there, and currently teaches there --> great mates with the tigers captain L.Wintle.

Yes, Stuart "Buckets" Lowe, mates with Bevridge from their St.Kilda days.

Hecker and Hayes, as well as "Iron" Napier, whom may have won North Shores B&F is rumoured to be returning as well, along with the Tigers 2004 B & F winner P.Wintle from over seas.

As is your right. But I have finally discovered the "ignore list", to which you are being added immediately. I never have to read about you and your 34 beloved clubs again.

It is a most useful tool.

How does that ignore list work Eddie, there are a couple of poster I would like to "ben" from my list?

Click on the offender's name (underlined at left of their post). From the drop down menu choose "view public profile". the next screen will give you an option near the top to "ignore". it puts a whole new slant on things.

one shouldn't ignore.carbonaro though. apparently he's tied up at werribee and used to be involved with rupertswood, whom he never stops talking up.

Any news on coaching appointments for the 2006 season in B-grade aswell as any new signings?

The walsh rumor is false he will deffinatly be playing for Trinty next season
