Sam Anstey can play, should have got drafted after capataining the dragons 18's to a flag. I think he played a few games with collingwood reserves and then went to Port Melbourne before heading to franga with Phibbs.

I heard their both thinking about playing A Grade next year and if they do look out.

Other blokes I've heard who are thinking about playing A Grade if the right strings can be pulled
-Gerard Bennet (Former swan)
-Tim Fleming (back to xavs)
-Ross Funke (tigers and demons)

Can anyone confirm any of these?

Ross Funcke, definitely not playing Ammos in 2006: Has signed on to coach Donald in the North Central Football League

Is Ross related to Leigh, who played a lot of footy up that way?

Can't tell you for certain, but they almost definitely are. I believe they are from the Minyip-Murtoa area, near Donald

Yeah Minyip is just down the road from Donald (I come from near there). Okay, well it just piqued my interest. :)

Any news on the mass exodus at Scotch? There was word on the retirements of Hume, Collins, and Kitchen, as well as a few overseas losses.

Word is Brett Connell from the VAFA has resigned from his position following a major blunder caused by him involving a high profile club. Apparently legal action was imminent had he not stepped down....

Please elaborate Knight rider...

All i know is that a high profile club had incurred numerous fines from the VAFA which upon closer investigation were not allowable under the rulings and constitution of the league. The VAFA continued to demand the payments, thus the club sought legal advice regarding the matter. Upon notifying the VAFA of their position the fines seem to have been dropped.

It would seem VAFA may have imposed similar fines on other clubs in the past and it should be noted that all clubs carefully read their rights before making payments to the administration...

Knighter,

Clearly the club is Caulfield Grammarians, so why don't you just say so?

Also I think the inference you are drawing between the fines complained about and Brett's resignation is a load of bollocks, and smacks of sour grapes.

Maybe you guys did cop fines which were withdrawn - OK if it means so much then get on the phone to Today Tonight or A Current Affair and add yourselves to the litany of speed camera victims, or council fine recipients etc.! The VAFA dropped the fines after Caulfield complained/appealed, end of story.

Frankly, Connell missed out on the CEO's position last year but continued on as GM for another year and I agree with Scribe2 he's done the job well. Will be a big loss but his role at the VCFL will provide new challenges.

Scribe, how can you stand by your man when he's deliberately acted outside the rules of the league and has ruined its integrety?

I'm sick of the league dictating how clubs should be run as well as them using "stand over" tactics and intimidation to get their outcomes!

I hope that VCFL Clubs are aware of this unruly behaviour and proceed with caution. Likely wise for VAFA Clubs who receive fines in future.

Knighter,

Where's the link between the fines, the appeal/challenge, the withdrawal and Connell's resignation? (NB - announced on 27/9 after he'd already secured the VCFL GM role two weeks' earlier)

Where's the detail of the legal challenge/threat? What was it for? When was there a demand for Connell's head? What were the subject of the fines? Why were they improper?

You've got to back your claims up with more factual detail, otherwise we can't very well view your comments as anything but retrospective grandstanding. If you answer the above, then perhaps you can fill in the gaping holes of your argument. At present, it's got less weight than a Thai bantamweight.

Scibe (AKA Mr Know It All),

The club that KR is talking about is not Caulfield and therefore it is not a case of sour grapes. KR is just telling us what he has heard and I can confirm this story as I know the club that he is talking about. Just because you write for the VAFA it does not mean that your word (nor Scribe2's word for that matter) is gospel. The VAFA for far too long has one set of rules for some clubs and another set of rules other clubs. It is about time the VAFA stopped biting the hand that feeds it and realised that football is about the player, not about the administration.

Right you are BP! It's got to stop and Scribe you know jack!

I'm calling for a column in the VAFA Record to be written by the BP and myself because it seems we're the only ones with our ears to the ground around these parts...

I think you're right, somebody needs to break Jono Horn's monopoly on VAFA media, perhaps sack the "For the love of the game" section and add a section called "The Eye", similar to the Herald Sun version, with notes from each weekend's nightlife involving VAFA players and scandal's.

Players/administrators/fans could email you during the week with all the gossip, publishing only evidence backed items of course.

Your thoughts Scribe 1 & 2...

I agree with the OC, BP and David Hasselhoff.

The VAFA media for far too long have been puppets in the VAFA, Old Xav dominated admin. Isn't it time to let some other clubs cheat?

As my name appears on more doorlists than Benny Mof's does on the back of mens toilets, i think it appropriate that I apply for a column in next years' record.

I believe this mountain of work is far too great for me alone, thus i'm calling for the BP and The OC to join me in writing this column. If Scribe needs more than one person to write about under 19 section 10 green 3 north-west then surely i can enlist the help of other socialites!

The laws of libel being what they are, I would be very careful about posting baseless accusations................

Just some friendly advice my friend, take it....

I believe your refering to defamation in which case the grounds for defence are: 1. what i said was true, 2. i had a duty to provide the information, 3. I was expressing an opinion.
