Bit of a strange release. Blind Freddy knows that May/June will be the peak.
You look at what has happened in Europe and you see the slow reactions we are making and it isn’t hard to chart things. Statistics don’t lie. Particularly when you have some solid data to model with.
We will be playing no football in May-August, I can assure you all this.
Hopefully we shut EVERYTHING down midnight tomorrow for 2 to 3 weeks and help out health system cope.
Prepare friends!
Hipp.

There is no way a VAFA (or any local league) season will begin on May 2. It's too soon and by most reports and trends that have formed overseas, it will still get worse before it gets better.
Best case scenario is a 9 round season beginning in June. No relegation or promotion.
The likely option will be no footy in 2020 which is tragic but necessary.

All to do with keeping the staff employed till then. Not sure what they will be doing for the coming weeks.

I'd be guessing that they try to rework all the fixtures

The longer the staff is employed the more of the season's affiliation fees will be billed even though there is no footy and nothing to do. Fixtures are done by computer! Doesn't take any time to do + can't do because there will be no season. May 2nd is a joke. Any VAFA game will be classed as non essential and there would be more than 100 gathered when say ressies and seniors are together so it won't happen or it would be in direct contravention of the law.

That's indoor. Outdoor is still 500

Hippster you do know that shutting everything down for 2 weeks now does zero other than push the spike to later on, pretty sure its important we listen to the health Minister PM and premier etc ...

Not sure I'd take too much notice of #scottyfrommarketing after his belated conversion to the cause or that of his health adviser after the nonsense he spouted about herd immunity. There is, however, plenty of expertise out there notably from infectious disease specialists and epidemiologists who are applying pressure on government. That said, your point about closing things down for that limited period is on the ball.

Sadly for footy I suspect we'll see little of it this season.

Correct, the government also has to worry about what the nation and our job situation looks like beyond all this, it's a very difficult thing for them to manage, important we all follow the lead they are giving us.

Footy yep she cooked for 2020

Makes me wonder, with there being a general feel that a lot of clubs are struggling for numbers and being financial, especially the divisional clubs. What are the chances more clubs will struggle in 2021. I sense a lot of players motivation levels to start fresh for 2021 will be at an all time low if this season does not go ahead which I dont believe it will.
Some challenging times ahead, short term and long term

Hard to say really, these are new circumstances for local footy so not a lot of past data to rely on. Player motivation could go one of two ways for 2021. I'm confident that some will be extra motivated for 2021 while others will lose passion no doubt.

Agree with you though. Long way away but this would surely hurt the chances of a Division 4 for next year which was already only looking like it was just going to be clinging on in 2020.

Looking less and less likely we will be able to get a season of any description in.

In saying that, trying to remain glass half full. The proposed end of season date (had it run as normal) was the weekend of 19/20th of September (A, B, C Grade Grand Finals). If we use that date as a starting point and working back, we could (theoretically) fit in a 9-week H&A season plus 2 week finals series (1 v 4, 2 v 3, winners play in the GF) for all grades with the season starting as late as the 2nd week of July.....far fetched I know but here's hoping it works out better than how it looks it will at the moment.

Three months of footy is better than none i reckon. Would you still run with the promotion and relegation ?

I think it would be unfair not to reward the premiers, but is it fair to penalise the bottom teams if such a compromised competition were to go ahead? Tough call. Maybe 1 up, 1 down? Maybe keep the same Divisions for 2021 but offer promotion to the 2020 premiers at the end of 2021, if they don't make the Grand Final..? (ie from 2021 to 2022 the promoted teams will either be the 2021 Premier and Runner up or 2021 and 2020 premiers)

As a player, winning a premiership was enough for me. If I then had to compete in the same division the following year, then so be it. Playing with my mates, and playing for my club far outweighed what division it was.

This is a world event, of the likes none of us have ever seen. If it means staying in the same division for another 12 months, then in the grand scheme of things, that's no big deal. Just play for a 2020 flag, and hopefully we get back to normal in 2021.

Of course, we could play 27 rounds over two seasons :D
