My understanding is they have requested to remain in D2 and Powerhouse will be the only team to go down to D3
Parkside and SMD up, Powerhouse down - Leaves 8 teams in D3.
La Trobe & Swinburne up, Westbourne & North Brunswick down.

This leaves 8 teams in D3 for 2023. and 7 teams in D4. This makes the most sense for the bottom 2 divisions which often are the most difficult. Perhaps a team from clubbies could come up and play D4 making 8 teams, this would be ideal.

D2 has Ivanhoe and WB go up, and bottom two teams from D1 come down.
Powerhouse down, Parkside & SMD up and merger of Yarra & Manningham means D2 remains at 10 teams.

D1 remains with 10 teams (2 up, 2 down).

That should settle it..... I think?

Only what has already been reported to date.

Emmaus St. Leos in D3 will become Wattle Park Amateurs Football Club

Manningham Cobras and Yarra Old Grammarians have agreed to merge for season 2023 - Unsure of what name they will play under but I'm sure someone will be able to shed some light on this. All things being equal the merged entity will play in D2 next season.
Was advised yesterday that Old Westbourne and Newport Juniors (WRFL) have been discussing a joint U19 team with, hopefully, the results being: -
  • Having an Old Westbourne U19 team
  • Strengthen Old Westbourne
  • Newport Juniors working towards entering the VAFA in the near future.
However, the mooted alliance has struck one (stupid and short-sighted) snag with the Hobsons Bay Council dubious about having a Wyndham based club playing out of Newport, albeit carrying a joint name.

Newport Juniors have very good facilities, excellent ground and playing surface with a dedicated, rational and no-nonsense committee.

Good on any club for looking at future pathways but is that really viable? Even with my limited knowledge of Western suburbs geography I know that Truganina and Newport and not exactly neighbouring suburbs and that traffic congestion in those parts makes a 20 klm trip a nightmare. I understand there is a Newport senor club affiliated with the WRFL so not sure why local juniors (who don’t attend Westbourne) would see this as an attractive option. If keen to play in the VAFA I reckon a local kid could do worse than play at Willy CYMS. Seem like a pretty good club to me.

Great to see SKOB winning the club championship, I know that all and sundry pushed hard and were desperate to claim this coveted award.
It's also great to see four of the top seven clubs were district ones, except Ormond wasn't one of them, much to my surprise. Mr Ford needs to post less on Big Footy me thinks and roll his sleeves up at the Gunn.

The 5 Points from the Masters got them over the line.
Get your boots on old blokes on this board and help your Club win what exactly?
Was money once now probably a trophy that was lost years ago!

Good analogy JJ.

Newport FC is a senior club only, with no juniors, a club which recruits through the top by poaching promising youngsters from neighbouring teams.

There is no relationship between newport and newport Juniors.

Newport Juniors, a completely separate club terminates at U16/U18?, their players dispersing to local clubs as Yarraville-Seddon, Spotswood, Altona and Willi CYs.

CYs is a great club with Seniors, Reserves, 3rds, 4ths, 2 X U19 (perhaps another next season), one girl's and possibly another in 2023.

An influx from Newport would be overwhelming, (although happy to have their best).

Another VAFA club in the neighbourhood would enhance Ammo football in the Western suburbs, and be welcomed by their neighbours.

Maybe Glen Eira can engulf another club

VFL recruits are fine but I want to hear about the AFL big boys coming to fill their boots!
The VAFA Social Media team seem to have finished their hiatus by announcing the return of Billy Gowers to OXAFL. Surely hannerberry will follow him down to Toorak Park. Pity they are both 1 pointers. I’m here for the XXXXAFL boom recruits and bags o ca$h.

Once again JJ, you're very correct, however Tarneit to Newport is an easy run.
Westbourne has a junior campus at Newport and over 40% of their senior students at Tarneit are from Altona, Newport, Spotswood, Yarraville and Williamstown, the majority coming fron N + W.
Playing home games at Newport, calling the club Newport and wearing the Westbourne guernsey should be acceptable to the Hobsons Bay short sighted council and help two clubs.

While most VAFA clubs AGMs will be usually straightforward, run of the mill type events this offseason, that won't be the case with the VAFA AGM. It could be one of the most unpredictable VAFA AGMs seen for a long time at Elsternwick Park, and the ramifications of the meeting will be felt long afterwards. Expect to see a bitter war erupt between the clubs and the VAFA Board over various issues that has occurred throughout the season just finished.
