Rather than limit the number of teams the vafa could charge a higher rate of subs for every team over X amount. That money in turn could be earmarked to support teams/subsidise subs in lower grades.I doubt they’ll limit teams Mr Chump, the VAFA make a heap from their subs and they need the big clubs to support the minnows in the lower grades, we need those small clubs.
Jeez Bedford , I thought yourself and Mr Platinum were on friendly termsIt is and always been a great competition and have made so many friends because of it , the same that you have made enemies . Just needs to accept that its now like the EPL
Mate you post on here at 4.30am I'd suggest it is you rather than the Bedford that has a sad life! You have no idea who I am, and again, another negative post! Keep guessing Mr Negative, do you have a sad life?
BTW Mr Einstein, the last time I looked the EPL pays players a fortune, unless I’m missing something we have an amateur competition, shouldn’t you be calling the EDFL etc like the EPL?
It's a little more than 'well run' v 'weak', but I think I understand your point. Why restrict the teams who are run well to try and push up the weak...Communism doesnt work.. Encourage those weaker teams to be better.. The Majority of those that play 3rds, clubbies or 3rd grade u19s do it to remain a strong connection with their mates they grew up with, these kids will have no interest in changing clubs and will simply give up the sport.
Clubs have been born and folded throughout all levels of footy since it began over 100 years ago, this is just cyclical that cleanses out those that are unsustainable due to variety of factors. Many clubs established when demographics of a certain area are completely different to now may well not be able to be sustained. Its not the leagues responsibility to ensure these clubs survive, if they can not stand on their own 2 feet they will go through the natural cycle that many before them have been through and many more after will. Its up to the clubs to establish a culture where players, sponsors, volunteers and fans want to be part of, not the league. It's a little more than 'well run' v 'weak', but I think I understand your point.
It is also my experience that at Ivanhoe we have/had many, many players from the 'well run clubs' play with us and not give the game away.
Finally, IMHO, the current system does NOT support ALL clubs in the VAFA. As such, change is required or change will happen - mergers, moving competitions or clubs will fold.
So IF the VAFA is to truly want to support ALL clubs then a plan other than the current format should be explored.
Then again, maybe a 4 or 5 division senior mens comp that is well resourced, financially stable and still allows for those who have capacity to have several teams is a better way forward for the VAFA? If you want a plant to be healthy, you prune it right?
Chump

If I’m posting here at 4.30am I’m probably overseas, you know there is a world outside of Australia, right?Mate you post on here at 4.30am I'd suggest it is you rather than the Bedford that has a sad life!
The Banyule example is interesting, and perhaps they were simply a club not suited to amateur footy, they are surrounded by clubs in the NFL who pay insane money and with no school allegiance were always fighting an uphill battle to compete. If you look at a side like St Bernards and PEGS they can only compete against the money from EDFL because of the school connections. There will be clubs leave but can also see clubs like Port Colts and St Kilda City from the Southern League who only really survive due to some shady characters tipping in hundreds of thousands of dollars each year and jobs offered on the docks, eventually this will run out and the demographics of these areas suggest they are far more suited to amateur footy than suburban. So this is the part where we agree to politely disagree, but I have never been a huge advocate for survival of the fittest rationale.
I'd suggest that the VAFA has 'some' responsibility when it has allowed teams to have several x 19's, under 23's, thirds, etc that are NOW creating the greatest imbalance in the VAFA's history. I do however, completely agree it is ALSO the responsibility of clubs to do their part as you have suggested.
I think the interesting phase of all of this could still be in front of us ......
What if we have an increased number of clubs that look to moving competitions in professional leagues as part of the reaction to no action on number of teams within the VAFA and the historical 'trickle down' effect is drying up. As such, clubs feel the only way they can survive is by moving comps where they can pay players to boost numbers ............then start poaching more and more from the VAFA?
As an example ........ Banyule have done a great job since moving to the NFNL and full credit to them. The down side of this for the VAFA though is that Marcellin, Old Ivanhoe and Ivanhoe (just to name a few) have lost players due to that move happening. If we start to see 'more'of that could it present even more challenges for the VAFA?
It might be better to keep the 'weak' in your tribe rather than allow them to grow strong in another?

That’s true, but if Im a betting man, pretty sure a percentage of these juniors flow to seniorsNot sure that there’s been any transformation: I understand that the Newport Power Juniors have disassociated themselves from the senior teams due to a disagreement about the seniors’ on-field player behaviour.
A new senior Newport Football Club now plays in the WRFL in Altona North, has no juniors and targets specific footballers from local clubs.
Newport Power Juniors and Newport Football Club have no affiliation whatsoever.
St Pius were destined for higher grades when they burst into the Amateurs 1979 - premierships and then early in their last season [round4/5] ran out of money - disbanded on the spot - Some went to other amateur clubs - mostly A/B grade I wonder why?Mr Chump, there will always be clubs that come and go, that’s life. Uni Blues are currently threatening to go to the VFL, hopefully they do!
Here’s a history lesson of previous VAFA clubs that no long exist in the VAFA.

Might be Jeff Kennett he gets on the turps and tweets well into the nightMate you post on here at 4.30am I'd suggest it is you rather than the Bedford that has a sad life!
If I’m posting here at 4.30am I’m probably overseas, you know there is a world outside of Australia, right?
Don't think he ever leaves Malvern let alone goes overseas.Might be Jeff Kennett he gets on the turps and tweets well into the night
Seen him at SportscoverDon't think he ever leaves Malvern let alone goes overseas.
Saddest individual on here, have a look at his rubbish. The bloke bags everyone, have a look at his dig at the three young lads from Trinity trying their hand at Coburg VFL. Disgraceful.Seen him at Sportscover
Because they wanted to play at a higher level?St Pius were destined for higher grades when they burst into the Amateurs 1979 - premierships and then early in their last season [round4/5] ran out of money - disbanded on the spot - Some went to other amateur clubs - mostly A/B grade I wonder why?
"VAFA make a heap from their subs". Maybe on paper but how many are up to date? Not many l believe.I doubt they’ll limit teams Mr Chump, the VAFA make a heap from their subs and they need the big clubs to support the minnows in the lower grades, we need those small clubs.
I have attached the 2022 list of players transferring to Newport (WRFL) Football Club in order to dilute your betting strategy. That’s true, but if Im a betting man, pretty sure a percentage of these juniors flow to seniors
I think the real reason for split was that juniors were worried that seniors were going to kicked out of comp
Rember the senior only back in the comp in 2014?
The previous Newport teams ,had folded disbanded years previously. Can’t remember if they were kicked out of the league

Spoke to the President tonight Brainy T and he said that you will be on a performance based agreement this year and as such a pie could be 'overs'.Glenorchy (Tassie) cant field teams as training 3 nights per week too much for some lads who want to train maybe 1 night (pie night) and get paid well!
Will I get that at the Hoes this year Chumpy?
