Hey everyone,

As the season is nearing and with hopeful rain, we will get to play I was just wondering what others views and or comments we're on this section as a player, coach or spectator.

What has surprised me so far is that only ST. BEDES MENTONE TIGERS were the only team to be promoted to section (2), I alsways thought two teams went up and two teams came down, that being not the case.

As a review from last season, Old Ivanhoe and Ormond looked strong right throughout the year and would be good to see how these teams venture in 2007, have the got big list and how many players have progressed into the seniors? Oakleigh was a surprise packet in finals and would be good to see if they have their midfield and their big fella's still around. La Trobe and Bentleigh was up and down and towards the end of the season didn't look hungry enough to make finals, will they change around or do the same? Melbourne High were always competitive but were very unlucky on a number of occasions and came into a few games short on numbers. Ajax are a query team, just didn't want it all year, came out to play but gave up at like quarter time. Essendon Grammer and Emmaus St. Leo's struggled and will need a good pre-season and a couple of good recruits to get right up there, but i think Emmaus are going down either way and we will not see them this season.

Does anyone have word on who is being promoted into this section????

Would be good to have feed back and who people think players to watch might be in this section.... have a good pre-season!

Old Mentonians and Bulleen-Templestowe won flags in Blue and Red respectively last year, unsure which will be promoted but i am personally leaning towards BT as we are looking into having two teams in 07.

Essendon grammar this year will win the flag in a canter have a look at there school side last year which is going to be the team this year,
they took out AGSV title as well making the sun shield grand final.

What about the biggest news - Old Camberwell U19's are happy to announce too all and sundry that they have been premiers or runner up in 2nd division over the last 6 years. They won the premiership last year (2006) however have run to the league telling them they are not good enough for promotion to 1st Division.

Biggest dissappointment is the league has rolled over again and allowed them to stay in U19's 2nd Division. Unbelievable!

The club is quickly losing respect with teams & players in Div2

Previous Under 19 flag at OC was in 2002 in third divvie (a wonderful one point win over Parade). In 2005 OC finished fourth.Your facts are so wrong about the past 6 years one wonders where you have been during that time. Prior to 2002 OC was in the red division of the comp and did have some success.

As for 2007 I hope OC can be at least competetive in divee2 ,however with few returning and few coming from the school it looks like a quiet year for the lads at this early point.

website incorrect. In 2004 for example camberwell lost the first semi to rupertswood at parade.OC did not win the flag in 2005 either .repeat previous flag was in 2002 in divvie 3 vs. parade.
Anyway doesn't matter ,long as the kids keep coming thru.

Hope your don't blow a fuse cardio, letting fly this early on.Hostilities haven't even started yet.

i may have better luck with the colts at greythorn juniors than with Carlton.
At least Greythorn have a committee and a president.....and even a future

Old Haileybury have put a request to the Ammos to be promoted into U/19(3) does anyone have any news if this has been approved or will we just have to wait and see when the fixture is finally released???

AJAX and ST. LEOS out, in BULLEN TEMPLESTOW and OLD TRINITY... should be good season, with all clubs having some pretty big travels to encounter.

Anyone having/have had any practice matches??

Wat does everyone think of old mentone??
big shot this year i would think
With big danny daperis in the leadership group, there a real go
Young matt cambell as well and jake moon along with wilton when no playing seniors... dont count them out

ah okay, have you guys had any practise matches, i reckon you mind find it a bit of a step up... had a read on another thread and from the sound of it old trinity will struggle now and ormond are the team to beat.

Im not from mentone, just a keen observer
They have played 2 practice matches both against division 2 teams and went down to old camberwell by 5 goals on saturday at half strength. Old camberwell did play in the division 2 grand final last year... its just a tip dont count them out!! Mentone will figure this year

old trinity will struggle.

Good one :thumbsu: leftfootkick but i'd do a little more homework before claiming such bullsh*t. Just so you know....

After a terrible 06 season in div 2 the Old T's have a much fitter, stronger side this year. Their 06 season was played with no depth and an extremely short list. However the 07 pre-season has seen a drastic change with a new crop of talented yougsters, a new coach & coaching staff and much improvement from the 2nd year players. Practice matches include a hiding of Mitcham colts side, loss to De La Salle (premiers of div 1) with only 16&17 players by only 8 goals, win by 7 goals against xavs half-strength div 1 runner-up side and a slip up to scotch (also div 1 & spotting 2 sides) losing by almost 10goals. But all in all the T-Boys are after a massive effort this year in Div 3 and will definately be a force to be reckoned with

old Trinity got an awesome new coach this year i hear. Gets on really well with all the boys and really keen for a good year. Wish the team and new coach all the best!

De la team was only half-strength at best, with many of their players having a run in seniors to get some fitness and game-awareness up,
and OX team was their SECONDS team from div 4/north, which is expecting 8 players to come down from the FIRSTS team that played carey that day, providing no injuries...

unfounded confidence. ouch.

having said that, i would like to see OT make the finals and put in a good show - but just thought i'd clear that up so we all know where we are come season start...

So in section 3 Under 19's who are/will be the captains in 2007? would like to hear why too...Whether great player, leader, most senior

VAFA scribe reckons OLD TRINITY are the hot favourites... would like to prove him wrong... has ormond and oakleigh middle of the pack, oakleigh i beleive will finish towards the bottom and ormond wud be the flag favourites imo... as for bentleigh to be second last... yeah no chance, the only thing he probably was close to getting right was the boys from OI... solid team and will look for a top 2/3 finish!

OLD IVANHOE GRAMMARIANS 18.21-129
def.
BULLEEN TEMPLESTOWE AFC 10.9-69

Old Ivanhoe if they are anything like last year will be a force this year, physical tall and are very hard to beat on there ground... A good win but Bulleen are the unknown, last team to come up from red were St Leo's who lost every game.. A bag of 8 from Monaco will have opposition teams giving him more attention

LA TROBE UNIVERSITY AFC
vs
ORMOND AFC

Ormond won by 2 goals. Not certain on final score but Ormond are definate flag contenders but a 2 goal margin against a team who did not participate in a practice match may be a query.. They are quick big and have hardly lost anyone from last year...Were totally outclassed in the Grand Final by the pwoerhouse from Brindisi but everyone was, now that St Bedes are gone Ormond may step up

MELBOURNE HIGH SCHOOL OB 6.9-45
def. by
BENTLEIGH 18.5-113

Bentleigh picked to finish 2nd last and Melbourne High to finish just out of the top 4 saw Melbourne High the favourites according to the record... Bentleigh steam rolled Melbourne High after a slow start, perhaps sending a message that Bentleigh this year are finals contenders..and perhaps Melbourne are in trouble this year, Although Bentleigh face a tougher task next week against one of the flag favourites Old Ivanhoe at Chelsworth

OLD MENTONIANS 10.14-74
def. by
OLD ESSENDON GRAMMARIANS 16.17-113

A good win to old essendon against the debutants to the division Old Mentonians... Questions were raised if Mentonians will have as much potency as there neighbours at Brindisi, but seemingly dashed with a good win to the boys from Essendon who look more seasoned and tougher than last year

OAKLEIGH AFC 15.8-98
def. by
OLD TRINITY GRAMMARIANS 16.11-107

Oakleigh one of the most dominant teams in the past few years in section 3 looked far more brittle than recent years fighting back at the half way mark only to run out of legs near the end... Old Trinity the flag favourites had a good win but against far inferior oakleigh team than recent years...Old Trinity now with Melbourne should have a percentage boosting game

Good summary mightysainters. Looks to be a more even competition than last year, now that St bedes have moved up. Could be any one of 4 teams this year i believe, however its bloody hard to tell so early in the year. In my mind Ormond are the team to beat, Only beat la trobe by 2 goals, however, on that big la trobe ground to get away with any sort of win is a good effort, especially with the mixed bag la trobe throws up.

Trinity looks strong, coming down from B grade, and beating one of the powerhouses from last year in oakliegh, which is not an easy task. Trinity seem fairly confident this year, as most teams do when they come down a grade. They got some strong players, such as Stockdale and Beaton, who could be very handy this year.

Other games are hard to judge, pretty hard to make anything of the other games as havent heard much of the pre-season of these sides. Ivanhoe look to be strong, but who knows about bulleen, a team that came from 12 goals down at 3/4 time in the GF last year, obviously a mixed bag with them. Bentliegh could be strong, hard to tell when they play MHSOB, who struggled last year.

Anyone got any ideas on who the standout players are? Any younger players who missed TAC or should be playing seniors but arent getting a game? This thread is the worst of the lot of the under 19's so far!
