Oliver or the VAR just didn't have the balls to make the call as it was right at the end of the game with a title on the line.

Mac actually had to avoid Dokus boot catching him in the head.

The freeze frames make it look bad. Doku got the ball then Mac Allister ran into his boot which was not at head height.

So do outfield players, yet for some reason they seem to get a lot of straight red cards for such actions.

Obviously won’t change anything so just interested to hear the VAR explanation.
I've never seen a red for anything of what Ederson did. Usually yellow because he didn't get him with studs or anything. Was knee on knee.

I guess that’s why I’m not a referee or a match official, because I won’t accept that Reguilon gets a red today and Ederson didn’t last week.

I understand with respect to how they’ve applied the laws of course, but still doesn’t sit right with me. I know you’ll call it bias.

I can't see how anyone can argue Reguilon was trying to win the ball. Ederson clearly was.

Remember Howard Webb being on TV, and saying that one of our players was fouled in the penalty area, but it was a good decision not to award a penalty because he didn't go down right.

Knew he'd be a disaster ever since then.

Would be happy to see it gone. Just use tech for goal line decisions. In the Championship this season every team gets good and bad decisions where if there was VAR it would’ve been ruled differently. May even have cost us a crucial first leg goal… but I’m all for getting rid of it and it’s delay in games, the way it kills exciting moments etc

Keep goal line tech and use semi-automated offsides, scrap the rest.

Was going to say similar. I think the automated offside system is imminent anyway, this would be my suggestion as well. VAR in concept was fine, however it’s usage and implementation just continues to cause confusion.

VAR as a concept is great, but PGMOL are just incompetent.

I've said it before but as soon as I heard Howard Webb in a commentary game say that one of our attackers was fouled in the penalty box, but that it was a brave decision not to give a penalty because he went downa bit funny I knew that refs weren't to be trusted with it.

No chance the clubs will vote to scrap VAR. Generally it has been a success but of course there's always room for improvement.

Offsides are taking a bit too long. Maybe the introduction of semi-automated will improve that but there's still room for error as it won't tell you who got the last touch or whether a player was interfering with play.

Referrals to the pitchside monitor should always include real time footage of incidents. Showing selective slow motion and stills is VAR re-refereeing the game.

If 99% of calls to the monitor result in a reversal why not have VAR making the decision?

VAR had a massive influence on the Germany v Denmark game. Denmark were denied a goal for offside just before Germany got a penalty for their first goal. The handball was harsh but consistent with other decisions this tournament. The offside was more controversial.

With the graphic they show for the automated VAR, you are not seeing reality, you are seeing a computer model. You don't see the moment the ball was played - the timing of it, and it could have been off a defender. The decision could have been correct but there's a lack of transparency about the full picture of a crucial moment in the game.

Also, what is the margin for error of the data being fed into the computer? The cameras will rarely be level with the last defender so some extrapolation has to happen.

There's no could have been with semi automated offside. A sensor in the ball means the ball being played is known to the millisecond. Cameras track all players on the pitch. Their distance to the goal line is known as is their position compared to defenders.

Add up all this data and you get an accurate offside call. They can even tell if it come off a defender by the sniko.

Offside is a yes or no call. This was the right call.
