I wouldn't unless you really liked the 2-4 players.

Generally to move in the top 10 (and especially right near the top) it takes another top 10.
We'll package up our 1st, your 2nd and some later picks for GC 1st then trade GC 1st (5 atm) and your 1st (4 atm) for pick 1.

I think it’s unlikely we win one, especially with another team coming in. The Vic clubs will continue to get all the players coming home after their stint at feeder clubs, their generations of father sons & the northern clubs will keep getting their academy players while any half decent ones we develop will get picked off before 40 essentially making the system useless for us.

I do think we’re setup for a competitive few years though so the next few should be at least interesting.

I don’t think it’s necessarily good for your enjoyment of the game if nothing but a flag makes it worth watching. I’m just trying to enjoy the ride where possible. I know the club will be but I don’t have any real expectations we will win the whole thing anytime soon.
It’s why we should shop local, or
from SA.
Ramp up the patriotism, just like WC
In the nineties.
Having a player coaching from that era would strengthen our resolve.
We need someone to speak out about
the VIC centric umps, media, rules.

Just watched the replay of Schultz’s non goal in the first from the mark on the line and F*CK me it looked like a goal live from where I sit right in line with it and couldn’t see anything different from the replay. The fact it wasn’t even reviewed Is bullsh1t. Especially since tabs had his goal from a mark over the line reviewed and reversed early in the year after review.

The horse bolted after that but it’s still F*CKED anyway

Couldn’t stop myself bumping this.

How can the same system result in a non goal to Schultz one week and a goal to some Sydney old mate the next (overturning the goal umpires call of touched) Genuinely can’t be both FFS. This review system is becoming so Orwellian. They (might choose to) put a review up, show you the video and tell you what they’ve seen to justify the call then next time same scenario and tell you a totally different conclusion to justify a different call. Freo screwed twice. It’s getting ridiculous

The adjudication of the HTB rule has got out of control. If a player has prior opportunity and is tackled to ground, then it should be called HTB straight away. The umpires allowing a player to 'dispose' of the ball while on the ground is just a farce, and far too many of these disposals are just glorified throws.

There's no way the umpiring can improve while the professionals are only part-time. The AFL just doesn't want to spend the money on umpires, which would ultimately improve the league by making the umpiring across games more consistent.

Clearly over the line before he even got his hands to it.

The worst part about Schultz being ROBBED of goal of the year was Razor ****en Ray calling play on and whisking the ball down field for Carlton to goal while we were all waiting for the inept little campaigner of a goal umpire to suggest it might need a review - given the bloke marked the thing from the coffee cart outside the ground.

That single moment bent this season over for me and shoved a Christmas tree right up its date.

I should have taken off the purple glasses and listened at the start of the season to Barlow and others that knew what they were talking about. Step backwards after the considerable loss of experience before going forward. My expectations were unrealistic after a top 5 finish.

Very hard to retain much optimism about where we are at as a club.
We are just sleepwalking though the second half of the season, turning in one below average performance after another.
Players and coaches and administrators spouting the same banal, mind-numbing cliches after every defeat.
As a fan, I’m FURIOUS about how the season has turned out. It’s a downright disgrace how we have performed overall this year. I don’t care what anyone says about youth or losing players etc.
worryingly it feels like even many passionate fans are just a bit meh, indifferent, not too bothered, nonplussed about how we have performed…

Do people even care anymore??
Where is the accountability for this Shambolic situation we find ourselves in?
I would love the team to just show SOMETHING in the last five games above the mean. Even one unexpected victory to show they have some semblance of mental strength.
Have no faith in that happening. The club is at a low ebb right now, and anyone who thinks it isn’t is in denial about what is required.
A premiership is light years away right now.

I feel the exact same way you do. What a waste of a season.

I think it is pretty obvious that we cannot change things on the run.
It happens in the preseason with JLo or not at all.
It’s not in his DNA, to think on his feet or change much when things go south.
Otherwise we would have seen players moved to alter the narrative.
Sure we do see some movement, rotation, but so many times this year we
get smashed in a quarter or half and it’s game over.
It would be nice just to see Treacy played down back rather than forward when
the ball supply dries up.
More midfield, flanker rotations, and set plays, the opposition know
how to counter our only ones. Or even run and stun instinctive footy that
seems to have dried up.
Only way I can see change is with more experience, or new assistants, etc,
with an outside point of view.
We have been picked apart, worked out, and if we keep on this journey it’s
just poor management.
In the off season there needs to be changes applied before preseason starts.
I think this year is done and our only win will be the Derby.
My focus is more on what the club does for next year this year is done.

If what you say is true though, how can we persist with JL as an AFL head coach?
You just have to be able to adopt and innovate and change during the season. It’s not an option not to, if you can’t do that - don’t be an AFL head coach?

Thought we actually played pretty well against Sydney after Q1 and even a lot of how we played against Collingwood wasn’t bad.
Carlton as we’ve seen tonight are actually bloody good. Dogs aren’t shabby & we thumped the Bombers & beat Melbourne.
We’re just middle of the road for now.

It’s a team sport, on and off the field. It worked for The Tigers, Dees, and lets
be honest our off field team this year is below par.
Fix that regardless, we need quality people developing, teaching our youngsters.

Apparently it costs a fortune to get top assists over here. We can only have the up and coming ones.
Leppitsch would be great for example but unless it’s a head coach Job the likes of him ain’t coming

We need to proactively develop WA talent or poach up and coming VFL or recently retired afl talent.

The challenge is the cap doesn't allow for them to be paid incredibly well so moving here becomes less attractive. The best WA talent would have higher paying opportunities in other fields.

For whatever reason I've watched and listened to a lot of AFL media over the past couple of days and the amount of blatant disrepect we received was pretty much universal. Bunch of upsets this round, all of the winners lauded except us. The best we could get about a really good win was backhanded compliments with caveats, like "Freo were brave but have not shown that all season". There's been plenty of "the most disappointing team this season", "Geelong lost the game (to a dreadful team in Barrett's opinion)" and "Geelong losing in Geelong never happens". The other thing option was not reporting on it at all, as former Geelong player Jimmy Bartel did when he did a roundup of AFL games for Channel 9's Sports Sunday show - had highlights of every match from Friday & Saturday apart from ours. If anyone can please post something - anything - from footy media that spoke positively about us over the weekend without it being a sh*t sandwich then I'd love to see it.

Indicative of our place in the AFL - if we want anything nice we have to do it ourselves because nobody else is gonna give us a thing.

It's funny how we get talked up as the dissapointment of the season in the same week we beat the reigning premiers who have won only one more game than us. In fact both grand finalists have won only one more game than us this season, with much more seasoned and experienced teams + minimal list changeover.

In fairness - we bring this on ourselves. We lose to North Melbourne at home, yet beat Geelong in Geelong. We're not going to get respect until we show some consistency and stop embarrassing ourselves and other people. We're still no gimme to beat the budgies in a couple weeks.

Not saying our season hasn't been disappointing or we played quite ugly football at times.. but at start of every season there is generally quite a few upsets in first few rounds

Teams we have lost to since the bye aren't bottom dwellers...if Roos had beat us after the bye..more concerning

We do but there's plenty of other opportunities to talk about what we've brought on ourselves, and I'm sure there will be many more to come. It would be nice though if one commentator or media person could pay us a genuine compliment and leave it at that. Something like this:

"Today the Fremantle Dockers ovecame a recent run of losses & a vocal home crowd and defeated Geelong at a venue that not many opposing clubs win at, yet Fremantle have won two in a row at GMHBA Stuadium and 3 of the past 5 visits there. The best players were [INSERT PLAYERS], while the tactics employed by coach Justin Longmuir and the Fremantle coaching staff which gave them the victory were [INSERT TACTICS]. Well done on a good victory Fremantle. Here's Tom with the weather..."
