A change of Government is due and no one seems to like Giggles as premier.

I early voted in the Mermaid Beach district and interestingly I asked the leaflet bearers what their party were going to do for the constituents.

liberals just looked at each other and could not answer, I took it as a sign of complacency as they have held the seat for a long time

I then asked Labor and he stated “change”. I know he was talking about the seat but I must admit it felt like “change for more of the same”

They are all self serving sharks IMO

That’s awesome Choppers you must be very proud of them 👍
I most certainly am and very proud of their older brother too, who doesn't have an athletic bone in his body, but is very gifted in the Agricultural Science field, having graduated from Kasetstart Uni, where he now works, leading and teaching students on field trips all over Thailand.

Mermaid Beach is an interesting electorate. Ray Stevens has held the seat since it was created in 2009, but the LNP have progressively lost their stronghold on it over the years. To the point that it became a marginal seat (under 5% difference) in 2020. One would think it would be a fairly safe seat for the LNP given the demographics/wealth in the area but that doesn't necesssarily seem to be the case. I doubt it'll swing to Labor on Saturday but they do seem to be within striking distance of the LNP this time around and we know a lot of interstate people have moved here since COVID, which potentially means we'll see some unexpected results this weekend.

Up until this week it seemed like the LNP/Crisafulli had this election in the bag. They'll probably still win but polls over the last week suggest Labor might be staging a comeback. Most likely too little, too late.

I’m not a fan of giggles and his government but equally it would be great to see Ray get a scare, far too comfortable IMO

There seems to be quite a few state MPs on the Gold Coast that have become comfortable. Would be great to shake things up a bit so we're not forgotten about when elections roll around.

Funny how Brisbane's board has lively discussions about politics and how it may impact their city/team, yet there's next to nothing on our board. Especially considering the man that's tipped to become the new Premier of Queensland later today is actually contesting a Gold Coast seat. Our current Premier was in the Broadwater today jetskiing around and was spruiking the future of the light rail + the 50 cent fares. Why don't my fellow Gold Coasters want to discuss this kind of stuff? I don't get it. What they do impacts us all.

For me it’s because I don’t want to put a divide or an extra divide between myself and my Suns brothers and sisters.

But having said that everything you have said in this discussion is non partisan and great.

The problem with discussing politics is people get very staunch on their preferred party like it’s a family member that you’re talking about. When at the end of the day majority of politicians care about the party 90% and only their constituents 10%
A lot of politicians are career politicians and their views don’t resonate with the common every day people

Plus 1.......can add religion to that as well....don't need to discuss either on a footy website......just my opinion

Fair enough. I think there's a way to discuss it without turning it into a 'your team vs my team' type of discussion/argument, but I get why others may not want to engage in it because it could lead to something else.

I do think the Gold Coast is an interesting case study when it comes to politics because most indicators suggest it has been historically conservative and that's starting to get challenged now that we've had so many interstate/international people move here in the last five or so years. Five of our seats were marginal in the last state election (Burleigh, Coomera, Currumbin, Mermaid Beach & Southport) and that tells me that the DNA of the Gold Coast is changing as we grow. That's interesting to me and it means the future of the Gold Coast is going to look different and I'm interested in what our future looks like.

Please keep posting your thoughts as you have an ability to come across as dare I say it……”Fair And Balanced”.
