It's not good enough for a test captain to taunt the crowd. For the second time last night I saw Vettori taunt or salute the crowd after taking a catch.

For a Test Captain this behavior is very disappointing.

I assume though he is only giving back a bit of the spray he would have been getting from our crowd while he fields on the boundry.

What was with the Kiwis last night? Guptill clearly sweared a couple of times after he was out, as if to suggest it wasn't out. It was plumb Martin!

Grant Elliott gave Voges a decent spray for no real reason. He hit a few runs, big deal.

And Vettori was probably only getting back what he was copping from the crowd, however cricket bosses don't like players getting involved like that (they frown on it when a player throws back a beach ball ).

I don't see any problem with it and I think it is great to see some personality from players rather then the robots the cricket bosses are turning the players into. Would have been fantastic to see another catch go to him in the same spot which he fumbled.

However I do agree with the above post that if Ponters did that overseas it would be all over the papers.

A couple of you guys are missing the point. I too don't mind if Craig McMillan gives it too us, but Vittori is a Test Captain.

Who gives a toss, good on him. Crowd banter just adds to the atmosphere.

Remember Warning serving it up to the Poms pretty much every game he played.

and wasn't it Hussey who had clobbered him earlier in the over ?
Elliott looks like a bit of a bonghead.

Vettori was a tool in the series against the Windies,so he's just keeping up his tool act.The Aussie supporters he taunted had the last laugh.

He's a gun. Was a top catch too. Would have copped an absolute earful while standing under that ball.

How was he a tool in the Windies series?

Can't see anything wrong with what Vettori did last night. You can just imagine the abuse he would have been copping from the crowd and what he would have copped if he dropped that catch.

The Aussie players are hardly angels in this area themselves. Even Ponting has been guilty of it, like when he had a go at Duncan Fletcher during the 2005 Ashes series after he was run out.

nothing wrong with it.

all it says is the captain of the team is not fully focused and letting words get under his skin.

i saw Cronje do it a few times when he was in Australia, and we all know he how he crumbled later in his career when the pressure got to him.

I thought it was great entertainment. It would be fantastic if the cricketing public, and moreso the meida, would aloow cricketers to actually act like people. I think it adds massivley to the contest as a spectacle if players are allowed to express their emotions (as long as they don't step ver the line, which, IMO, Vettori wasn't even close to) druing a game. Unfourtunatley there is a media perception that cricketers are above society as individuals and as suck cannot act like one. It would be fantastic to see players, yes, even captains, give a little bit back to a crowd that would ge giving it to them for how ever many overs. I think I would think more of Ricky Ponting if he allowed that side of him to sneak through every now and then, hell, he might even show more than the bland, PR educated captian charactiture that he shows in most interviews and press conferences these days.
But yes, you can guarantee if it had of beenhim and not Vettori, it would be front page cricket world wide, have 'tarnished' Australia'swin, and have Roebuck, Gavaskar and every other anti-australian keyboard hero in the cricketing world frothing at the mouth.

oh my god, as if a thread was made about this??

if you get your knickers in a knot about this, then maybe it's time to switch to watching lawn bowls, or maybe squash, chess maybe??

Its a national tradition to serve it up to the Kiwis, and for them to give a few back.

The classic Sinclair catch on the boundary line, he turns around and points at the crowd.

The guy taking a bow after catching Warne on 99 :)

they love it.

It wasn't a Test Match though was it?
If it was you would have a case maybe, but it was only a 20/20 match
