That's how the multicultural TAC cup squads work I know a few boys who have gone through them in the past couple of years

They are Different to the AFL Academies but I say the Rules would be very Similar and The rule you said it a Good Chance of being part of the Academies Rule as long as the Kid not played AFL

How it works at the moment is if one of your parents are born overseas you qualify to be part of a multicultural squad
Considering that 50% of all Australians were either born overseas or have a parent who was, if these were the rules, it'd open the numbers way, way up.

Worth waiting to see.

Doubt it as they would be Father/Sons

Don't we get discounts on father/sons?

Wouldn't it just mean we get the discount which is higher?

On a different note.
I really hope we start looking at goalkeepers around the world. Guys that are 190 plus have big kicks and usually very athletic could be perfect to turn into footballers. Never met a soccer player that wasn't generally a very good kick of the ball. Might need to put this part in another thread.

Don't think there is any Discount for Father/Son/. Just think it is for the Acadamies

So do we get a discount on Daics boys?

Not sure you have really grasped the concept yet

To be honest not really. I've skimmed through stuff. Read multicultural and zones and academies. My version, inside my own head, means we can select multi cultural players within our academy/zone at a discount.

Kind of, in short.
If the kid is not currently in a program and is from a cultural background that might in normal circumstances, not assist him in getting into a program, we could help him via our Academy.
If the kid becomes draft target, we would bid for him as other Academy's do now

Rider: The AFL are still working through the finer details

FATHER-SON AND ACADEMY BIDDING

* Each pick in the draft is assigned a points value (decreasing from 3000) based on wages earned by draft position since 2000.

* As now, rival clubs can bid for father-son and academy-listed players.

* The value of the highest bid determines points that must be “paid” by nominating club.

* The nominating club’s next pick/s are moved backwards until the debt is paid.

* Incentive for nominating clubs is a discount on the “price” paid for the pick.

* Discount is 20 per cent for first-round picks and rises to 100 per cent at pick No.56, at which stage clubs can use their final pick to claim a father-son or academy player.

* Points unable to be paid in the current draft must be extinguished in the following draft.

I understand that and don't disagree. I talking about purely from our own clubs perspective and how we could maximise our opportunities.

E.g. Identify a gun kid from Darwin. Tell him to move to Tennant Creek, and we'll look after him and his family financially. I believe Cyril Rioli moved from Darwin to a College in Melbourne where he boarded successfully for a year or 2 before being drafted. Happy to be corrected if I'm wrong. No doubt it wont suit every kid and you'll have some go back home but it's worth a shot, IMO, if the talent is there.

Fair enough. It may possibly be the most cost effective way to go about winning a premiership.

I'd suggest a possible different approach. The raw talent is there (well definitely amongst the indigenous desert population), the issues are developing that talent and facilitating that talent having the capacity to make the shift to a big city, fame and fortune down in pie land. Local academies have the ability to develop that within the community. They not only strengthen the individual they can also strengthen the community in a multitude of ways. In turn they can be a key part of developing the capacity for the talent to then progress outside of the community to play AFL or at least make a living out of footy in other leagues.

Sure if Collingwood is only focused on winning premierships they might play the grey areas of this system and simply focus on the importing the outstanding individuals to their area. Alternatively the pies could focus on the building best possible academy for the Barkly area and its people. A community focus as the club was originally about. They may not end up with the best talent but they may end up with a flow of talent, for the years they have that region, that will serve the community, collingwood and footy in general.

FWIW I believe the Riolis are from one from one of the islands. Island culture, indeed coastal culture and desert culture are chalk and cheese. Different language, attitudes, problems and I'd guess genetics. Just because something worked for Cyril doesn't mean it will work for any area of indigenous culture. Note I know nothing about the Barkly area so can't speak accurately as to what the communities, language and culture are about there.

Lachlan Keeffe says Hi

He would not be the 1st. We did with Elijah Edwards

I'd rather we invested in the community. Take the training and development programs to the community. Bring some of the more likely prospects down to the club for some intensive training now and then, but let them enjoy their childhood with their families.
