This Saturday is the start of the Victorian Premier Cricket 2007/08 season.

There have been plenty of changes to the clubs over the off season. Dandenong go in as defending champions.

Here is the fixture for Round 1

Just got back from Frankston.

The match was reduced to 36 overs after 100 minutes was lost for rain.

Richmond won the toss and elected to bowl

Frankston Peninsula 47(22nd over)(Jaensch 3/12,Dennett 3/11) lost to Richmond 1/49(11.1 overs)(Blizzard 38*) by 9 wickets with 149 balls to spare.

This was Frankston Peninsula's lowest ever score.
 
Melbourne spoilt Dandenong's unfurling of the premiership pennant by scoring an exciting win with one wicket and four balls to spare.
With the opening round of VB Premier Cricket scheduled, the odds were always in favour of rain and, sure enough the showers arrived on cue. However eight of the nine matches were able to get a result; the St Kilda v Prahran match at the Junction Oval was the only game unable to get underway due to the pitch flooding under the covers.
Stars in the season-opener were ex-Tasmanian Matthew Wade, who showed why the Bushrangers selectors lured him across Bass Strait by hitting an impressive 76 against the Hawks, North speedster Chris Marantelli, who took 4/28 in his 50th match and Blues' keeper Tim Ludeman, who snared five catches against the Bombers.
Several of the matches were rain-reduced; two games achieved the bare minimum of 25 overs each after starting at the 2pm deadline. In those games Ringwood (1/80) easily beat Casey-South Melbourne (7/79) at Casey Fields and Camberwell Magpies (4/165 - Matthew Wade 76) were too good for Hawthorn-Monash Uni (5/152 - Simon Dart 57) at Monash Uni.
North Melbourne (3/130 - Christian Hewett 58) comfortably beat Northcote (129 - Chris Marantelli 4/28) at Arden Street.
Richmond (1/49 - Aiden Blizzard 38no) inflicted a crushing defeat on Frankston Peninsula (47) at Frankston. Despite a 100-minute rain delay, the match was still completed before 3.30pm with Justin Jaensch (3/12) and Ben Dennett (3/13) doing most of the damage with the ball for the Tigers.
Dandenong skipper Warren Ayres, commencing his 25th season of Premier Cricket, top-scored with 56 in his side's 8(cc)232 against the Demons at Shepley Oval. After unfurling the Panthers' first premiership pennant, Ayres looked on-track to register a ton against his old club - he has scored one against every other club - but fell short when ex-Redback Mike Smith had him caught at cover. Brett Forsyth (54) also batted well. In reply Melbourne (9/233 - Andrew Kent 55 Peter Nevill 53) got home in a thriller with just one wicket and four balls to spare.
In other games Essendon (156 - Luke Rosbrook 4/33) were comfortably beaten by Carlton (3/159 - Mick Allen 54no Michael Sheedy 54no) at Princes Park, Melbourne Uni (6/171 - Scott Sanders 41) lost to Geelong (5/173 - Clinton Peake 62no Aaron Finch 59) in a match reduced to 36 overs at Geelong and Fitzroy Doncaster (7/199 - Gavin Kellar 62) went down to Footscray Edgewater (6/201 - Dean Russ 54) in a 49-over game at Schramms Reserve.

He bowled 8 good overs Saturday.

Pity Cricket Victoria would not let him bowl ten over. Might have been the difference.
 
goood to see gavin Kellar making some runs for ditzy sonny. Hopefully he can keep up his form and play some time in the ones.

Anyone here rate him? The only reason I talk about him is that he is my PE teacher/cricket coach at school and we all gave him a fair bit of shit last year for his crap performances
