That opening comment of ep 4 by Heyman about the "overcompensation" sums up Vince pretty well.

Did you see the part in ep 6 where the mic picked up Heyman talking to Steph about Vince opposing her for the sake of opposing her or something like that?

I think in the case of his kids, they love him, but they don't like him.

And most of the people they interviewed, struggling to think of what Vince's legacy will be. You can tell so many in the business just want to say what most are thinking, it's right on the tip of their tongue, but they just can't bring themselves to.

Just once it would be refreshing to see someone be honest and say "Good promoter, but he's going to be remembered as the Harvey Weinstein of the wrestling world. He was a total toxic arseh*le and a negative force in the world" lol. I guess Bret has sorta said that, but would like to see more. Maybe CM Punk one day

There's just some real egos in the profession, and a few people came off as complete twats.

Could have gone a smidge harder but Punk on Ariel Helwani' show has been the most reasoned on the Vince stuff. Even more than Cody. Unfortunately IWC misses that in the whole AEW vs WWE BS.
 
Five eps in and it’s good in that it’s has covered the basic history of the WWE/WWF. However nothing that hasn’t already been covered in dark side of the ring, who killed wcw, and behind the bastards (podcast).

It’s been obvious for quite sometime the VKM is compensating for some serious childhood trauma.

Punk has become a corporate spokesperson. That seems really unlikely.

I have not delved too far into this, but a whole stack of corporate and civil issues have been raised:
  • no matter what she may have felt at the time she was being manipulated by VKM:
  • he was in a position of power and was in control of the relationship i.e. how / when they could act as a couple.
  • Whether she was fully consensual or not, he shared her around and sent intimate pictures of her to other employees, whilst he was still he employer
  • he used public company funds to pay her as an "employee" and (i think) settle the suit with her

Far as the letter is concerned it's a contrived letter he ordered her to write. Possibly to try and show if things went pear shaped it was 'consensual'. She then took passages from several famous love novels/stories for it.

The final interviews in episode 6 were recorded more recently, specifically the interview with Prichard so was after the allegations came out yeah?

And the thing is that I doubt the uninitiated would really enjoy it that much anyway because so much is thrown at you in quick succession. Again, for people already familiar with what's being talked about it's fine, but I can imagine if it's your first time it would be kind of jarring going from incident to incident, story to story, without much of an explicit interweaving thread.

If it's for non-/casual wrestling audiences, it's too much. If it's for the well-acquainted fan, it's not enough. And thus far I haven't heard anything all that meaningful or insightful from Vince.

I felt the same after the first 4 episode but I thought the last two eps were more interesting. Overall I'm glad this was made but it was a bit of a letdown as I wanted it to focus more on VKM than WWF although the two are so intertwined that may prove a difficult task for anyone.

Just finished. Thought Meltzer was fine, don't agree with everything he says but he's been a reporter on the industry the whole time and thought he gave good context for what media opinion was compared to the story WWE wanted to push. Some people just seem to instantly hate on him because of his AEW love and so cant go past that.

Hulk and Bret unsurprisingly come across probably the worst. It is as you'd expect, the ones there are going to kiss ass still and those that were wronged by Vince will have a bitch. Like others have said though we've seen it all before in other docos.

Amazed how many people still try and defend Vince and the company on some issues. You can love the product and still admit some shit is just wrong.

The thing I hated him saying and I stand by it being the worst thing said in the doco. Was when he said wrestling fans don't care about wrestlers dying

There's no defending what vince is charged with.

I think he was saying that from a position of seeing how audiences responded to those deaths in the 2000s. It seems pretty accurate

I’m far from a fan of Dave Meltzer, but I too thought he came across really well in this doco. He always seemed to have a pretty balanced view on everything, and expressed a great knowledge of wrestling history.
 
Yet to get all the way through the doco, but the thing that's immediately apparent is that they're clearly not going to let the Janel Grant case get anywhere near a courtroom.

If Vince is that befuddled and all over the shop in a controlled interview, with Heyman and Pritchard and whoever else from the inner circle clearly prompting his answers, then he's going to get absolutely torn to shreds on the stand by any half decent prosecutor.

Dude was writing obits from wrestlers in their early 40s and younger on a monthly basis for a few years, many of whom he knew personally. In that situation you can't help but despair at the lack of any change by either the company (until Eddy and Benoit forced their hand), or fans by changing the channel or skipping live events.
