Ive been banging on about board rotation for god knows how long!
Some interesting info here: https://www.effectivegovernance.com.au/page/knowledge-centre/news-articles/director-tenure

This section is particularly relevant too:

A 2019 US study analysed a sample of more than 3,000 companies over an 18-year period finding that board tenure is positively related to forward-looking measures of market value, but that positive relationship tended to reverse after about 9 years on average, when a director ‘might become stale and less relevant to the needs of the firm.’ This is not a new finding, with earlier research showing that extended tenure is linked to a resistance to change and cognitive entrenchment, which describes what psychologists observe when people gain deeper expertise in an area but also become less flexible in their thinking.

Based on my experience with boards, things start to get stale after 6-7 years. 9 years should be the maximum. Even the 12 generally accepted for the chairs seems unnecessarily long.
Footy clubs are a bit different so if you have 1 director on the board that stays there for 12 years thats ok but not a group of them.

If you have been there for say 6 years and then you get the opportunity to drive a major infrastructure project, that could take 4 or 5 years from concept to finalisation.

Have a lookat Hawthorn and their huge new Dingley facility. That started to be planned around 2015 and I think they bought the land in late 2016. I heard someone from Hawthorn on the radio the other day say they visited it and its about 60% completed with 2of the 4 ovals ready for use. I wouldnt be surprised if they have 1 board member who has been in charge of it since 2015 and had been on the board for a few years.

If he is genuinely contributing as much as he has said there is no reason Koch can't put him on as a non member elect board member.

George doesn't have that option thanks to Koch's arbitrary rules about ex players (not that Koch wants him in anyway).

Unless Snowdon has since aired in favour of a coach change, Koch won't have him on the board.

Snowdon's credentials are better and you want him on the board but in my view a vote against him is a vote that displays my dissatisfaction with the club's continuation with the status quo. However it's a ****ed up situation when you are voting out a 3-year director and several long term directors overseeing this decade of rinse and repeat get to stay indefinitely.

Snowdon is a manipulative snake. Very good at pushing his own agenda and telling quite literally everyone exactly what they want to hear.

A prominent member on this forum (who will remain nameless) called Rob 2 years ago and left a voice message with some pretty pertinent questions surrounding legal ethics of his and the Board's conduct. Of course Rob didn't have the guts to respond to this individual but he called half a dozen officials at the club absolutely shitting himself fearing that the charade was almost up.

He also tried to use his position to influence certain parties during the last member election (Abernethy vs Tredrea).

And with regards to his footy nous, he described the Houston trade to Collingwood from Port's perspective as "an astute piece of list management."

If you haven't worked it out already, my vote has most definitely gone elsewhere.

I’m curious, Chewy mate, how did Snake Snowden use his position to influence certain parties during the last member election? (Abernethy vs Tredrea).

Well, many of us don't know these details.

I'm worried about this vote. Has George got enough groundswell to overcome the boards vote stacking.

He doesn't seem to have the same groundswell as Tredrea who only just overcame it.

Snowdon wont be getting 5,000 votes like Aber got.

There were a few happy clappers who got convinced last time that Tredders was like the anti-christ thanks to misinformation from people like caro etc. and voted Abba.
I think this time George hasn't got that problem I'm hoping he wins comfortably.

I'm hoping retired Port players are working behind the scenes for George.

Former Port Adelaide SANFL Premiership player George Fiacchi has re-joined the club's Board after being the successful candidate in the recent Director member election.

Mr. Fiacchi has previously been a Director on the Board from 2012 to 2019.

Following his successful SANFL football career as seven-time Premiership player, and 236 games for Port Adelaide, Mr Fiacchi built a successful corporate career in media at Australian Radio Network (ARN) in both local and national leadership roles, before founding Fiacchi Media and Management in 2013.

Port Adelaide Chairman David Koch said both Mr. Fiacchi’s football and business knowledge will be a valuable addition to the board.

“I’d like to thank each of the candidates for nominating and putting themselves to the members for election to the Board, and congratulate George on this result,” Mr. Koch said.

“We are pleased a significant number of our members have been engaged and taken the time to vote for the member-elected position.

“We are pleased to welcome George back on the board and know he will make a great contribution, underpinned by his knowledge of both the Port Adelaide Football Club and his business experience.

“A diverse skill set composition across the Directors is imperative to ensure we have the expertise required around the Board table to lead the growing complexity of an AFL club.

“I'd also like to thank Rob Snowdon for the significant contribution he's made across the club as a Director for the last three years.

“Rob's experience and understanding of AFL football has been invaluable and he's also done a terrific job as Chair of Power Community Limited.”

Mr. Fiacchi’s election to the Board will be formalised at the 2024 Annual General Meeting, to be held tonight at the Precinct at Alberton at 6:00pm.

The ballot process was independently conducted by Corpvote Pty Ltd.
