5. Hille-played really well, definitely BOG
4. Nash-leading possession getter, deserves to get second-BOG
3. Watson-Liked what he did, a good leader for the club
2. Skipworth-played really well, some people really hated us drafting him, now we can stick it up to them.
1. Dempsey-Great game and just played really well

...based on one game? Might be a tad premature. I'm just glad we got through without any injuries. I'm also not sure where this puts us in terms of our capability. I know the Dogs had a host of stars missing, while we seemed to field a reasonable compliment. I think at our best and their best the WB would still beat us, but I was still impressed last night.

There are some obvious improvements. Patrick Ryder is going to be a gun. The Jay Nash baggers might have to start eating their words this season if last night was anything to go by as well.

I had to watch the game at my local with people constantly in my face, my schooner frequently found empty and no sound:thumbsdown:

Huh

He was terrible. His kicking, which is his best attribute, was no good, his manning up was terrible.

The only good thing he did was he went head first for the ball once which I've never seen him do.
he was great, he got in and under, his kicking was good and he set up some goals

Really liked the look of Lovett tonight. Seemed to cause the dogs headaches everytime he went near the ball and his speed through the middle of the ground was fantastic.

Hille looks good and hopefully this continues for the whole year.

The real highlights was Dempsey fit and showing what he can potentially do, Ryder's new stronger body and seemed to be playing with a lot more confidence than what he has been and the exciting work of Neagle and Gumby.

Interesting with Nash. He had a few shocking clangers which hurt but he also had 26 possesions which was the most for us. Room for improvement with his disposal yes, shocking game , no.
And it pleases me to no end to see Skippy doing well considering the majority opion was we drafted him to mentor kids :D

I'm still yet to see any evidence of Nash's supposed kicking talent.

He is a seriously good kick on both feet. i have seen it at traing a heap of times. The problem he seems to have is the decision making process under pressure. People are remembering the 4 or 5 clangers ,which you do , and not the better kicks.
His disposal eff last night was 65% which is not good enough , but he had a few friends who where worse on the night including Monfries, Dyson, Ryder and McPhee.

Was at the game, and may have missed a few players, as i havent watched the replay yet, but my take is....

3. Hille did everything that he needed to do, including that last mark.

2. Ryder.. was probably best on, but only had to contend with cameron wight for much of the game, which isnt a huge task.

1. Lovett.. the boys looked for him to create so much of our play going forward, and he did it well very often.

would love to sneak Neagle in there, but didnt kick straight enough, love the look of him though.

Worst on Ground goes to Matthew Lloyd or leroy jetta. lloyd was never near it when he was on and jetta didnt put his head over it once

3- Hille- clearly BOG by a mile as well
2- Ryder- solid game, looked more active rather than sitting on his man all game
1-Watson- we are screwed if he goes down

Mentions to Lovett, Hocking, and Gumbleton.

WORST ON GROUND

3- Dyson
2- Dyson
1- Dyson

Just terrible!

I'm not a fan of everyone sitting here bagging a couple of guys after our first pre-season games, but Nash wasn't by any means great last night.

Kicking was not good at all- but we'v gotta realise that it's the first big hit out for them and the skills were not really up to standard across the whole field.

Good to see that he never dropped his head, but I wouldn't go around proclaiming how great he was last night. Hopefully there's some big improvements from Nash, know he has it in him.

3. Lovett- Ran hard all night, attacked the ball and used that blistering speed. Great to see him in the Essendon jumper still.

2. Watson- As always, Jobe was consistently putting his head over the ball and feeding the ball to our runners. Disposal was a lot better last night as well, with room for improvement still. That opening quarter kick to Gumby- a sign of things to come hopefully. I could get very used to hearing Commetti utter "Watson to Gumbleton" over and over.

1. Hille- Star. What can I say? Oozes class combined with raw strength and power.

I see games like this- a rd 1 game in the NAB cup- more like a glorified practice match played at full pace. And the players that stood out in my mind didn't have to rack up 20 touches to show that they are totally on their game and are ready for battle come the real stuff in a month against Port.

Watson,Hille,Paddy,Lovett,McVeigh and Lonergan all played top games I thought. Mistakes were made by all of course ,but they led the way all night with their skills I thought.

Others that played well and were impressive were Skipworth, Dempsey, Neagle and Nash.

Interesting to hear to hear Tim Watson explain Dyson's role in the match. Being a reciever around the packs and running the ball up- but did he do his job effectively and did he keep his opponent from getting the ball? Its hard to tell watching on TV. People who were at the ground would know better how he really did.

Great to see Gumbleton's face after he kicked his goal. The confidence will build in this bloke and that mark he took, jumping up and reaching those long arms up for a one grab mark...It's just what he did every week at Peel Thunder:thumbsu:

McPhee hardly touched it and that out-on-the-full shot was a disgrace,NLM gives me heartburn every time he picks up the ball, Slattery tried hard but made some mistakes (never an easy job on Johnson), Houli's goal was sensational and the few touches he had were good but has to improve his attacking skills-GO IN AND GET THE PILL BACHAR!

Hocking looked good I though-he's a tough nut, cool under pressure.

Bellchambers?? Bit of a worry. Did he actually win a tap?

Tyson Slattery impressed me with his small number of touches.

Quote of the night was Bruce comparing Hille with Cox....cant remember exactly what he said but believes Hille is getting close to Cox like form.

I think he might be onto something there....:)

I reaken Nash played pretty good...

Appart from some pretty off kicks I can't see how people think he was worst on ground.

As for Dyson, yeah, he was pretty $hit, but hardly was worst on ground too.

dyson is bad. that was only gumbletons 9th game, if he can get through the season without injuries, lookout afl he will be a star! bellchambers is better than laycock.
