Thanks for the run-down chrsco. On Pratt, how far off AFL do you think he is (or do you think he has enough to get him there)? I have a feeling we'll need to make a decision on him and if he's good enough elevate him, simply to fill a spot.

I've always thought Pratt could make it, from watching the colts last year. Reads the play well, commits to the contest and generally has good disposal. The closest comparison I could make, and I made it before Freo drafted him, was a David Hart type back pocket. Mops up well and release to the runners. I know quite a few Swans supporters don't like him, but you're right you will need to make a decision on him and Smith, because there is depth in this draft and some very good players will slip to the rookie selections, IMHO.

I will be very disappointed if Pratt gets delisted, especially if someone like Thornton or Peake or Mark Johnson dont but I highly doubt that the club would draft an 18 year old, 70 odd kg guy and then delist him after 1 season on the rookie list.

I agree curry, but I say that from the point of view that some very good talent may, and probably will, slip through to the rookie draft. Now, if for extreme hypothetical example, Michael Walters or Clancee Pearce slipped through to the rookie draft if I were an AFL club I would like to have room to put them on the rookie list. That's all I am saying.

Yeh thats fair enough but if we wanted to free up rookie picks then we should delist players like Thornton and Peake from the senior list and possibly Dunn, Smith and Mourish from the rookie list and then promote guys like Pratt and Connelly so that we will have plenty of rookie picks incase as you said, someone like Pearce falls into the RD:thumbsu:

Not going to happen :thumbsu:

Hey Chrsco

I know you were first on the Neville Jetta bandwagon, did you manage to catch the colts game today and how did he and the other potential draftees go?

cheers

Neville Jetta made his league debut yesterday. Didn't get much of the ball after half time but is classy and has a good kick. Clancee Pearce played the best of Swans young talent, makes good decisions and kicks well off half back. Naitanui and Yarran didn't see much of the ball.

Thanks for that. I'm guessing Pearce also played League, there is some serious talent coming out of Swan Districts this year. They should make a bit of cash from all the youngsters getting picked up.

As Angus said, Jetta was quietish, but 13 posessions in first WAFL game, for a skinny kid, not too bad. Clancee with 23 posesssions was the standout of the debutants, Brett Wolfenden with 20 or so posessions and 3 goals was our best IMO, with good skills as well. Todd Banfield impressed with his attack on the ball and pressure on the ball carrier. Peter Bonney is an interesting 1, in that I believe 4 or 5 AFL clubs spoke to him last year about possibly drafting. It was his second game (number 23) and took 10 marks. How old's Grabski, he's always impressed me, very good mover and attack on the ball, but been too injury prone, that would be his question mark.

Liam Anthony simply must be at least rookied by someone. Surely he is better than most of the Eagles and Dockers rookie listed players atm as well.

Thanks for the Stats as well, isn't Michael Walters a machine?, and I can't believe many have him going 2nd round in mock drafts. If he goes 2nd round, that shows how deep this draft is. Wonder if he'll get a crack at league soon?

Why use it if it isnt going to happen. Thats just silly. :thumbsu:

Pav, it's because I suggested to curry that if a very decent player slipped through to the rookie draft then you would want space to be able to take them. It's even more critical for the Eagles and Dockers to have space this year because we will get some of the first picks.

OK, so Pearce, Walters or Hill might not slip through (but then again they might), but what if an injury riddled Tom Swift or Jackson Trengove dropped out of everyone's calculations?

Yeh Pav, chrsco is exactly right, there is no reason why a quality player couldnt slip through to our 1st or even 2nd rookie pick. I am pretty sure that nobody expected Connelly to fall into the rookie draft last year but look what happened, it is even more likely to happen this year considering the depth of the draft:thumbsu:

rich has been pretty ordinary so far. he spent the first half playing forward pocket without much success. he has been moved to the centre this quarter, but still looks a bit lost and uninterested. i wonder if he is injured? if not, there would be some concerns for recruiters imo

I agree, his work ethic must be of concern.

I reckon if the two WA teams weren't down the bottom he'd slide to mid first round or even out of the top ten. Seems to have gone backwards since last year.

not sure about that dom. too much talent on offer to slip outside the top ten

i just hope that he is having a lean patch and it isn't a sign of things to come
