If he gets a week for that it will be proof that the MRP is rigged. He will be able to use the David Hille defence in that he set himself to take a mark & then realised he wasn't going to be able to take the mark & therefore turned his body mid-air to minimise the contact. Ultimately his hip hit Bate, not his arm, elbow or fist.

Clearly going for the mark and was in the air when he turned and made contact. Pretty hard to pull out of a marking contest mid air. Made incidental contact to the head and the free kick +50m was the right decision.

Listened to the call on 693 and the expert Graeme Bond, who apparently understands all things tribunal, said there was nothing in it and Waite should be fine.

Except that Hille plays for Essendon, and Waite plays for Carlton. Will probably get 2 weeks.

Even the HUN reckons nothing.

Blues forward Jarrad Waite was reported in the second quarter for high contact with Melbourne forward Matthew Bate, who bravely ran back with the flight of the ball.

Bate was rattled by the solid bump, but Waite was committed to the spoil and the match review panel might throw out the charge.

Seriously. Will be fine.

He was already in the air for the marking contest, saw Bate and then turned mid-air. Not even half as bad as bad as Hille's.
Also don't forget that he was pushed into the contact...Shouldn't even reach the MRP....but...with the state our game is in, who knows these days.

ABC 774 after the game had him hung drawn and quartered. Further proof that the only thing more useless that Gerard Whateley is Drew Morphett.

put it this way, if Waite gets done for that and Hille didn't for an act which was much more dangerous, you couldn't help but laugh, Waite was already airborne and turned his body to protect himself from doing any damage, he did all he could not to clean Bate up, unlike Hille, who swung his elbow in his motion

Waitey will be fine, we can't afford to lose him cos he's arguably our second most important player behind Juddy with the flexibility he adds to our side

Jarrad will be fine.. I think the Melbourne players all around him were totally shocked when they saw the report.

However, what I worry about now is that Waite must clearly be a target of the umpires. The slightest infraction and he's going into the book. Not good.

The David Hille defence would go well here. Eyes on the ball, in the air heading for a chest mark until Bate very courageously backed back into him. Waite had no other option but o pull himself up. If that charge is not thrown out the club really needs to kick up a stink.

The umpire has no idea.
