Don't tell these two r fair dinkum, at the minute, this is the biggest tank i have seen in decades, why else would u play Kingsley in youre team instead of the steamer hughes, i have it on good authority the man miller is working around the clock to ensure a big name rec ruit is heading to punt rd during the PSD Draft and know its not kingsley, Hudson or Weller, Pav, Roo and others r on Millers hitlist and this man miller will either make or break his career depending on him getting the job done this draft, continual playing of Sugar, krak and Tiv for far to many games even though a few of them have been dropped during the year, not leaving a few of the kids in long enough to develop knowing they r good enough to play now, the wallace and miller show is about as funny as the richo and kingsley goalkicking show and can't be taken seriously at the min, i feel a few big shocks come trade week r in store and that the Tigers will climb in 2008 alot quicker then most think!

cool. well put.

Have to agree.....something is going on down at Punt Road. I too believe Miller has got his hands firmly on a big name player...not sure who...perhaps Dal Santo or someone to be taken with the number one pre season pick....wallace cant stuff this up. Kingsley is not in this teams future so why the hell is he being played in front of schulz and Riewolt...yes i know they havent done anything to warrant selection...but geez lets get games into these kids while we are sitting last and we can afford to! Cleve Hughes had 12 possies 5 marks and a shot on goal in 53% of game time....thats off the back of 6 goals in 3 games earlier on.....then got dropped...you tell me this isnt a circus act of the highest order by the spin doctors of punt road.

i hope so, it is essentially his job to do so :p:confused:

i wouldn't be too quick to get your hopes up for a champ coming to us in the PSD. i think their would be quit a lot of players letting miller think he/we have a"firm grasp on him"

i mean , why not?

the salary cap is about to get a very significant increase, it's just turned june, richmond haven't got a win, have a cheque book which the love pulling out - and miller and wallace both know the wolve's are circling.

what a great opportunity to get some extra 50 / 100K - or 2 years on the new contact! kevin sheedy has done it for years - and i think quite a few players agents will give it a go this season too!

thye should make all enquiries richmond, of course - but ultimately, i hope they dont get sucked into just help making a pavlich or reiwoldt get a better contract from their respective clubs - we have some serious work to do

meesen is probably the most realistic and best option to be taken in the PSD

You might be on to something there della!
Though... the amount of pain we are going through this year, they had better be talking to
Judd
N Riewoldt
Pavlich
Del Santo etc... :D

If we give up our number 1 pick, for Dal Santo or Riewoldt or anyone, I will be so bloody angry!

Kruezer is clearly a stand out player who can play ruck which is what we need. No point getting a inside midfielder that would be useful but not essential. When we have Simmonds back our centre square, when fit, will contain in and under players Tuck, Foley and Coughlan. Tambling, Conners and Polo will also develop into a players who can play in there plus we also have Raines, Johnson, Brown, Deledio, etc. who can have short spells in there.

IMO Dal Santo is good, but not worth a round 1 draft pick. If we get a priority pick I would be happy to give away our round 2 pick and a Meyer or someone. Saints may even eye Schultz as Gehrig is getting on a little and Fergus Watts isn't showing much. If not, I would only take it through the PSD, b

quick question - did anyone here predict polak or kingsley coming to us before they did?
speculation is useless

polaks name had been thrown around here this time last year actually - it was pretty known we were keen and miller had him pretty much ready to come over.

so sometimes where there is smoke -there is fire:cool:

We wont give up our first pick....but we have currency this year....first pick in the PRE SEASON draft....late first round/second round picks....bright future just on the horizon.....and a heap of cash...i say its a perfect opportunity to bring a quality player to the club.

Sure i'd trade the number 1 pick for Riewoldt! The only way we lose in that scenario is if the kid we could have drafted turns out better. What's the likelihood of that? 10%? 20%?

The clubs already knew the salary cap would go up. Players contracts (would) already take this into account for later years on their contract. So any extra space is likely already budgeted (spent). This would apply to all clubs so no real benefit to any club WRT cap space.

Room to move within the cap comes from trading players on big $$ (hard to do because the new club has to have cap space) or being at the bottom of the cap and having that extra 7.5% to play with (we are apparently in this boat).

Even if we benefit a player by getting them a better contract at their own club it makes it harder for their club to keep other players.

I actually think Miller has planned us to be at 92.5% for a few years. We don't even have to be at the bottom of the ladder if we are the only club that can afford (say) Judd.

Consider using multiple sentences and even paragraphs to make your argument more readable and hence understandable to the masses.

Yeh... the Ins and Outs at our club in past weeks smell....
A streaker would get more game time than Jack Riewoldt!!

Tankarama is in full swing at the RFC.

I actually think Miller planned us to be at 92.5% for a few years because we had no money a big debts.

Certainly consistent with taking the lazy/easy option & Miller's dismal track record of drafting recycled players (with very few exceptions). Rather than investing in the education, training & development of youth. Still, that's always been Miller's approach. Miller is from a past generation & still living off the glory days of North Melbourne. He needs to move (or be moved) on!

But who cares....neither Miller or Wallace are required by the Board to take any responsibility for their decision-making or for their performance!

It's always somebody elses's fault!

I agree that we were broke. But we have stayed at 92.5% even though we started making money the last 2 years. That's why I mean it was planned that way.

Most clubs seem to be not able to look further ahead than the next year WRT the cap. I think Miller saw top players coming off contract this year 2-3 years ago and budgeted accordingly.

This is what the guy's ego feeds on - getting the big fish. I could be wrong, and you can debate whether it is the right plan of attack. But it's my take on it.

Yeah we started making money, but we had other equally important areas for that money to go towards, not just player payments - paying off our debt, being able to have a player development manager, more money to spend on recruiting, a full rookie list etc etc. We have had very low total player payments because we can't afford to have much more and because we are rebuilding the list so that more than half of it is made up of very young players.

There are big name players off contract every year, this year is no different. Most of the big names being talked about now will be re-signed through the season and all this talk will disappear. Big name players move clubs extremely rarely these days, I doubt very much that we'll see anything happen this year. Planning 2 or 3 years ahead to have salary cap space to recruit one of them is man on the grassy knoll stuff.

we have stayed at 92.5% because we are paying a debt off - the fact we are making a profit for 2 years - just means we are actually paying the debt off quicker than the interest accumulated.

i think we will have some good salary cap room though to play with. i think browny is out of contract at seasons end - and i would highly expect / hope it takes a fairly signifigant cut.

i think we will be looking at still remaining at 92.5% for the next 2 seasons (meaning more will be spent as the cap has risen) - if we go after a big name player - we still can, but you may find it will be "heavy ended" like kouta's was - meaning 2.5 million over 5 seasons - 350k for each of the first 2 seasons & 600k for the next three seasons

it's dangerous, but it can help try and get rid of the debt quicker, cos the interest would be killing us.

sorry for the double post but does anyone know if
Ryan Okeefe is out of contract end of the year, although its probably unlikely him leaving a premiership team id love him at tigerland

Lets not get bogged down with how we got to 92.5%. Really makes no difference to the position we are in. I agree about paying off debt quick. But getting more people through the gate helps too.

Back loaded contracts have bitten us hard in the past. Gaspar destroyed our trading position for years and Kouta's wreaked havoc with Carlton. If anything I would try to free up enough cash to front load contracts. That allows us more money in following years, not less.

I think this year is different because Judd and Pavlich may want to go home, and St Kilda may have two unhappy campers. That's 4 of the top 20 players in the league. Normally it is 1 big name coming out of contract, and I agree, normally they just re-sign.
