Just being discussed on SEN between KB and Pat Smith. Greg Denham alluded to it in a recent article. The Club and Terry have concerns regarding his health and an agreement has been reached to pay out his contract should he retire.

By the way I meant to put a '?' at the end of the thread heading. I am posing the question rather than making a prediction.

Re: Wallace to retire after this week's game

It seems he also has lost faith in the group:

"Wallace admitted after Richmond's latest loss, when its players gave their all for most of the first three quarters, that while their endeavour could not be questioned, the group lacks class.

"When it goes to the parameters of genuine quality, we're running short and that's the reality," Wallace said. "

A little premature for a parting shot isnt it?

Given how quickly the talks came up between Wallaces management and the club I'm almost expecting an announcement before the team flies out for WA. Surely there will be a press conference on Thursday to celebrate the milestone and it would provide the perfect opportunity for him to announce it then that due to health reasons he is retiring as head coach of the club. Terry retains some dignity and the club also comes out of it well, in that they stood by him until the end and were always going to honor the contract they had with him.

If you were going to announce your retirement, doing so before a game at Subiaco would be a far better option than one in Melbourne I reckon
Could do it next week before the home game against the Dogs.

yep, reading bw the lines I reckon this could be the suitable milestone 500 games and in best interests of all parties...lets hope so...we need to close the chapter and start with a fresh page:thumbsu:

March has mentioned 'review after round 11' quite a few times.
round 11 against the dogs will be his farewell game surely.

That was before the health issues....

If he is going to get a golden handshake he would want to go out in Perth rather then the media packed Melbourne. He will have made the 500, might go out with a win agaisnt Freo.

The review will see us make other changes to the football department with a list of possible candidates to take over. Fingers crossed Collingwood sign up Mick Malthouse so we have no chance to get him.:thumbsu:

He better not do it after this match:thumbsdown:. After the spray he gave to Morton about playing on against Port and now for him to get his "milestone" and then go would be the most selfish act anyone could undertake.

As for his health, he needs to harden up and learn to cope with the stress the thousands of Richmond supporters have been handling over the last couple of decades and in particular the last 4.5 years:thumbsdown:

Whatever happens, it's just so disappointing it had to end this way.

Sad for his family? Yeah. Sad for Terry? Definitely not. He has left our list in the shitter and it will take years for the new coach to get it back on the right track. For the amount of players we have to work with I would say if he has had 2-3 years from where Frawley left us he would of done average/okay but 5 years? Absolute garbage job. That's also forgetting all the embarassing mistakes along the way that would take a whole novel to write up.

Barnzy, as much as it pains me to say it, I think I agree with you.

The only thing i would say is that his family will cope...they have $600k to help them through.

When average weekly earnings are around $50k, it is hard to have too much compassion for such a highly paid person who has failed so badly

Exacty. By all means go along with some story whereby Terry keeps his dignity. No one wants to hammer the bloke. However the important thing is that it is done with sooner than later.

average weekly earnings????????? i need a new job
weekly average is about 12 over the year

the list isnt so bad. we just need to fix our forward line and a few more midfield options to develop. a bit of belief and confidence into our senior group - cut some deadwood from the list in a final cleanout (including at least 4 of the over 30s) and give the kids a decent run for the rest of this year to see who can cut it and who cant. might not make the 8 next year but should be good the year after when our senior core are reaching 24-25 and around 100 games.

He has lost a shitload of weight, but yeah it does sound like an excuse by Richmond to get him out the door. It's going to be an interesting five days that's for sure.

And a few feathers as well.

Poor guy. It's a tough gig the RFC. I'm sure he wishes he took the Hawthorn job now. 500 Games for TW. Don't really know what to say about the past 5 years. They haven't been great but there's been moments we've thought as a club we were heading forward I guess it just didn't work out.

We'll only find out how much character this group actually has after the spin doctor departs.

Reading between the lines that are between the lines, not having to walk off the G in front of the tigerheads, is in his best interests too.
And the tiger coaching curse continues. What was his statement again? I will not coach another team after the tigers. Earth to TW....dont know if you live in lala land dude...recent history suggests thats 99% a given....Lets take it from the top...Paul Sproule, KB, Jeans, Walls, Gieschen, Frawley and you!!.

Lets not delve into the assistants and footy depts as well. You tend to end up selling used cars, or being a travelling salesman after your expertise is utilised by the tigers. ;)

I was behind Wallace for 4 years & 4 weeks... I no longer am.
(Even though I am still wounded after our round 1 public humiliation, I was happy enough to give TW the month he asked for)

Massive hypothetical now for anyone who cares to have a think about it.

What if Terry had taken the Hawks job 4 & half years ago, do you think he would have got them to the level they are at including a premiership last year????

I gotta say unfortunately I don't think he would have got it done... too many things he has failed at with the Tigers would have presented similar hurdles at the Hawks.

At the end of the day he will be judged by his overall win/loss record & by anyones language... it aint great! :(

Terry, do the right thing by the Tigers for the future (& perhaps for yourself as well)... agree with the club to finish up now.

You know it makes sense!

Thing is Hawthorn could see through his used car salesmen pitch and didn't want him that bad.
If only we were not so blind

Terry Wallace should retire after this weeks game, how much more stress can he put himself under. Terry deserves a life, not misery.
Terry has done a wonderful job since he has been at the club. He has done what he could. Now its time for Terry Wallace to retire and be with his family.
Good luck for the future Terry. A well deserved holiday.
