They are naming him, they're just quoting the Chinese media in doing so because the cops haven't confirmed it.

The police avoid mentioning race/ethnicity in their descriptions to reduce misidentification and people not reporting other people because the cops named the wrong ethnicity (or the witness has a different definition - 'Asian' in the UK is specifically South Asian for example). They don't need to specify a race (particularly when there's photos), mentioning it just risks tripping things up.

The fact that it avoids inciting randoms on social media into racial profiling or just straight out racism is just a bonus.
Except it backfired, didn't it. He was always going to be identified as Asian, whether Chinese or from any other country in the region. There's no way to prevent backlash on social media, that's what it does.

But they didn’t name him. It’s all just weird, definitely has some espionage / check home security out type vibes to it.
IDK why he hasn’t been named. But I hardly think it matters if he is yet to be identified in the press. My hunch is that the Chinese authorities ARE working with Australian authorities. They probably wouldn’t want a guy like this roaming around, nor would they want the negative press of protecting someone wanted over such a heinous crime. This guy would be in deep hiding, which probably can be done for a while at least.

That sounds pretty logical so in the true spirit of the crime board I 1000% disagree and you are wrong. Confirmed Chinese spy.

Qld Police say they are still to locate the man who poured hot coffee over a 9 month old baby on Tuesday. Baby Luka suffered serious burns and is now recovering from what will be the first of multiple surgery procedures, including possible skin grafts around his neck and chest area.

Heart breaking. Heal up little Luka

As far as I'm aware there is no extradition treaty with China in force, so there is less chance of getting him back as there is on Richmond winning the AFL Premiership next year.

I would love you to be right but the Chinese authorities won't give a shit about what he has done and any negative publicity that may come out of it. They get a lot of it now and don't flinch. Look at all the foreign nationals that get lost in the court system there and are never heard from again.

Seeing this guy was able to avert police it suggest some sort of special training in the police or military. That's even more so of a reason they aint gonna give him up. He will probably be revered instead as a puppet of the CCP.

Was planning to go back permanently, or maybe was on the point of being kicked out due to exploiting multiple student visas, and decided to give Australia something to remember him by 😡

The Australian authorities haven’t made public diplomatic appeals for his extradition yet. That tells me that the Chinese are co-operating. Because even if it were a lost cause, as you suggest, then don’t think that the Australians wouldn’t campaign for it.

And of course the Chinese care about their international reputation. They might not budge on matters which are important to them, but this guy isn’t that.

This guy knows that what he has done will mean dire consequences so he is in hiding.

As to he having military training, I see no evidence for that. He avoided capture. He was desperate. Even dumb crims can do that to save their skin.

The only other possibility is that the Chinese have got him and will lock him away for life (or do away with him). But the idea that they would let him go about his life is fanciful.
