I was going off a figure of 17,000 which I think is the most recent claim. Unfortunately in war its nearly impossible to be certain of whats true and whats not. But US intelligence in May was claiming 30-35% of Hamas militants have been killed. So its not the IDF figure is probably in the ball park of being true.
Most countries that aren't unhinged are denying there is a genocide happening. The South Africa case was seemingly not very strong, they got provisional measures which is a low bar, but South Africa was calling for a stop to the IDF military operations in Gaza which was not granted. Given the court's role is to prevent genocide, it suggests they probably don't think the evidence of a genocide occurring was strong enough to grant that provisional measure.
Genocide isn't just a random word. It has significant meaning, it's the worst of the worst. It isn't just "war we don't like". It can never be this. There needs to be an extra layer of condemnation to put to the worst regimes in the world who try and eradicate entire people's existence.
I mean, it can't be ruled out. I am not going to strongly deny it, it's largely unknowable from here in Australia. But for me to believe it there has to be some good evidence that its happening and I am just not seeing it. I am seeing a devastating war. One that there can be fair arguments about a lack of proportionality and other war crimes.
