Forget whether he was pick 2 or 3 etc, do you know if Chris Masten was a first rounder or not.

Because Caroline Wilson, Gary Lyon, Hutchy and Thomas BETWEEN THEM could not figure out if Masten was a first rounder or not. Deadset the most cringeworthy TV of the year for me. Watching these 4 clowns stare at each other in bewilderment at the mere mention of the name Chris Masten was hilarious vieweing.

Take away the fact hes played 20+games, was pick 3 ahead of Palmer, was involved in the highest profile trade in AFL history and is one of the Eagles best young midfielders, surely people who have a job in the AFL should know this very very basic information.

A please explain needs to be sent to these four IMO. If you can get such a simple fact as this wrong how can you sit there and give us a opinion or break news without looking like hypocritical twats

Didn't see it, and that's a bit tragic that none of them knew.

*I* know Masten was taken at pick 3 with the pick that formed the centrepiece of the Judd trade from Carlton. That he played with Palmer before they were both drafted and was the inside man to Palmer's outside man. That he's a tad undersized and has been knocked around a bit at AFL level, and that his skills have been a little suspect in his first two seasons, however all signs point to him being a very good player. In particular in the last month where he's averaging ~30 touches. Will add muscle over the offseason, should be over his groin injury, and with guys like Ebert, Natanui, Swift (maybe), Kennedy, LeCras will form the basis for Eagles sides for years to come.

How'd I do? :)

Not bad... Footy Classified's effort went along the lines of:

Lyon: He went Top 10 didnt he?
Hutchy: I think so... at least first round anyways
Lyon: oh
Hutchy: But he's had a good last 2 weeks [edit: despite averaging 29 touches the past FIVE weeks, and 20 more disposals for the season so far than Daniel Rich despite playing 1 less game than Rich]

It truly is embarrassing IMO.

How can a former coach and three supposedly media experts not know whether he was in the top 10 or a first rounder?

Amazing.

Especially when hes not an obscure 1 game wonder nomination... and THE PICK THREE in all the Judd trade stuff they bang on and on about.

And they cant even trot out the "dont know about players out of melbourne excuse" as they bang on and on about Rich's disposal numbers when talking about the Rising Star award, despite Masten having 20 more this season from 1 less game... embarassing moment for their supposed professionalism... lol

Must admit I cringed too when I saw that, surely they aren't that stupid...

i cringed when someone compared chris masten to daniel rich, and then thought he must be having a lend

Did you see me offer something that could be interpreted as 'opinion' with regards to Rich vs Masten that you could argue with? No. It was a statement that Masten has had 20 more disposals than Rich despite 1 less game. I compared that stat, not the players overall. Are you disagreeing with that stat, or just being a troll?

that stat is correct, meaningless but correct, i have no problem with that. if you weren't comparing them im not sure why the stat was pointed out. im glad your in fact not saying masten is as good as rich is. coz if you wanted stats i could rattle off a bucket load of stats where rich would be far superior

Ive posted in the general Rising Star thread that I think Rich is well ahead due to the impact of his possessions, tackling, I50s, etc... however Masten is not as far behind as to warrant not being recalled as to whether he was even a first round pick, and had only played "2 good games" according to Hutchy... which is after all the topic of this thread... try to keep up :thumbsu:

Surely they can be emailed.
The fact it was "the Judd trade" means most footy fans know who he is and where he was picked.

It really is disgraceful. Hutchy and Caro would know who was out on the turps over the weekend but wouldn't have a clue about actual footy things.

You wouldn't expect any different though, would you? Two of them are journos pushing their own agendas, Lyon watches two games a weekend (and comments on all of them), while Thomas has fixed ideas on everything - completely blinkered.

If you work in the media and comment on games of footy, you should watch EVERY game. It's their job FFS.

They're still talking about Caro mentioning Ed Barlow a couple of weeks ago, when she couldn't think of anyone young at the Swans to build a team around - no mention of Jesse White on Monday night (10 grabs & 4 goals on the weekend) who looks very promising.

Shocking tv show

It disappoints me that there aren't more intelligent, informed footy discussion shows on TV (free to air). It seems that either the market demands, or the media THINK it demands, big stories and controversy. I really, deeply don't care what Hutchy finds in Ben Cousins' garbage bin on a weekly basis, but I'd love to hear in-depth analysis of different teams and their players.

I want to read.hear about my team without just hearing "Judd is good and Fev kicks lots of goals". No kidding. Tell me about whether you, Mr Media Footy Commentator, think the backline is coming along OK. What about the rookies introduced this year - who are keepers and who will be cut? What will Carlton do with Kreuzer long term - ruck or forward? THIS is the next layer of football analysis I wish I could get, because it's interesting.

But, I guess it would also be only for a small audience. And would take a lot of effort. And would sell a ton less than Magpies crashing their cars/Eagles taking drugs/Tigers in turmoil/Blues rorting something.

Boo.

I don't think FC is a football show.

Looks more like advertising for newspapers, presenting articles and discussion of articles. Channel 9 probably won't care if it rates or not.

I found it amusing that not only could they not work out if he was a first rounder or not, but Hutchy seemed to think Masten was taken in the same draft as Daniel Rich.
